God that brings back memories. When I was in high school I and a few guys build, what we called, "ScuzBlasters", an extremely cheap alternative to sound cards. They were parallel port connectors with a bunch of resisters and a driver that would take sound from games and port them out your printer port and into a regular stereo system. We could actually provide TRUE stereo sound by spliting the (hold on to your hats) 4 channels of sound before it was widely used in games. Cost us about $4 to make, sold them for $10. Sound cards back then were astronomically expensive, everyone just used their speaker. Gave you halfway decent sound, but most everything was midi back then anyway. :0

Have you seen any of Portal's player made maps?

The portal map community is like the elitist TFC people on steroids. A few of the maps are really well done and last 15 seconds. Then there's the ones with custom textures where you're fucked if you don't know the answer to the question. They all fail to capture the fun of the series.
