Music coming from my computer?

I launched up some old ass game at home and my computer, Not the speakers, started beeping and maknig some sort of gay ass game music.

So thought that might be fun play with, anyone have a clue what "that" is called?

yeah; it's the internal speaker.

nowadays most prebuilt computers come with it even though it's never used anymore.

It is the motherboard speaker. Pretty much all motherboards have them. They emit the simple beeps you get from programs like Windows.

Some older programs used the speaker for game sounds instead of standard speakers - one of the reasons was that not everyone (and not every machine) had sound cards / speakers.

I am pretty sure that I have heard of programs that you can use to fool around with it and make sounds.

Edit:

Uh, all of those beeps from Windows come from that speaker, along with diagnostic beeps from your motherboard. It is still very much in use today because, well, how else could it audibly output your computer's status if the soundcard or something were not working?

Oh well, that's true. From my experience though, you generally don't really get to hear it.

I remember on my first computer it was years until a program used the internal speaker for the first time, I freaked out when it began blaring at full volume the prince of persia 1 soundtrack.

I remember having a completely different experience than you. Windows never used it (thank god because it's pretty annoying), and for some reason it was never used except for the computer startup/reset sound. I never really had a messup with the motherboard so it didn't get the chance to turn on.

Now I assemble computers on my own and i just store it somewhere if it comes bundled with a component. I should try to use them for something, like secretely attach a lot of them at the same time in someone else's computer for maximum combo points when it turns on for some reason.

I do not remember the where the mans are, but there are documents that tell you what the beeps mean with each operating system. Like four beeps means you have a RAM failure, etc. (just making that one up as an example).
