I'm so naive when it comes to do with TVs and related technologies. I cannot stand the majority of what is on these days I just download the stuff I like and don't go near the TV. So clueless.

You might want to be less vague. Are you asking how to hook a comptuer to a tv? If you've got an wii or ps3 you could use that.

Are you trying to read news and weather?
Post on forums?
Watch video?

If you have an HD TV and all you want is to use it as a computer, I would just buy a cheap desktop and a wireless set of mouse and keyboard and use that.

For video, Roku is a simple and easy choice. My family LIVES on our Roku box :P

After tons of research on building a small pc that was quiet, I ended up just buying a Dell Studio Hybrid, very small and very quiet. Pretty Powerful and drives a large HDTV in 1080p via HDMI cable. Very Sharp. Plus they look damn cool and have digital audio.

For controlling instead of a mouse keyboard combo I bought a Logitec DiNovo

It's cool, works as stated and the battery life good. The keyboard lights up with bright orange or green lettering depending on the mode you are in and is smaller than an xbox controller.

This setup is probably more than most people want. I use it to:

Browse web in 1080i
Mostly YouTube, Hulu, Netflix, Pandora, live365, BBC, Slacker, LastFM and steaming via wireless to the main music FLAC/iTunes repository using Windows Media Center and the ever more cool XBMC Media Center (open source badass software) which I like better.

This setup is also powerful enough to record HDTV live via external USB reciever.

This weekend I was researching a TV to go into a bedroom with the thought of putting a small box or something on it to stream Netflix. Many TVs are now running/supporting web applications. You can't really "browse" the web but TVs like Vizio have built in 80211n wi-fi with web apps such as netflix, Pandora, flicker, facebook etc. That is the way to go if you don't already own a tv and perfect for some applications. If you have a TV "Vizio Internet Application" dvd players are being sold. I am guessing it's Android running on these things. Wild Guess...
