Odd/Cheap Games
Being a poor bastage, I have a great appreciation for some of the older and/or cheaper games. Being a lazy bastage, Steam makes a great way for me to get those games. Some of my favorites so far have been.

I am considering picking up Quake offa Steam. I never really played it except on the N64 (I did not have a computer until 1999) and the console Quake experience was... less than satisfying.
I have been also eyeing the PopCap Complete Pack, as I am thoroughly entranced by Peggle, Insaniquarium, Bookworm, and Bookworm Adventures. It's $100, but considering how many games there are it works out to about $5.88 per game. A pretty good value in my book.

Darwinia is a blast. I found a copy of it in-store last year for $10. Scooped that shit up, I've played through maybe 4 times.

id is hella lazy! There was not even any copy protection. You can literally copy it around back and forth and there is no security; no CD-key, nothin'. Best $18 I have ever spent. One of my favorite RTS games ever was WarGames. Yes, Wargames as in the movie Wargames with Matthew Broderick. Every time you start it up it says "Shall We Play A Game?" It was pretty low power - I could play it great on my old 199MHz Pentium Computer (this was back in 1999). At that time I had borrowed it off of a friend. Now I am lookin' to pick it up again from a store, hopefully in good condition. Some of my favorite things about it:

Speaking of Popcap games I'm pretty addicted to Atomica. I play it anytime I'm downloading something and need to pass those 10-15 minutes before it completes. There is another one called Typer Shark or something. I used to think I could type pretty fast but that game put me in check on the expert levels. I don't think there are many Popcap games that I don't enjoy. Its really great when your favorite server is full or your favorite MMORPG is patching for an hour.
I played the demo of Darwinia when it was first released and loved it. I just can't seem to take the time to buy it. Especially around this time of year I always feel guilty buying things for myself haha. |
