Could a mod team be a PLC?
I was just wondering to myself is there any mileage in a group that are making a mod starting a company under the name of the mod and selling shares in the company. Money for the company would made in terms of website advertising, ads on the server, possibly part of the maps that come with the game, maybe sponsors names could appear on score board screenshots. (any other ideas you can think of) Companies that would be interested would be any that have anything to do with gaming particularly ones that sell products to gamers, mouse mats, mousse, gfx cards etc. I was just thinking to myself if FF said they were going to do this and were offering shares I would certainly buy some. Not to say that would happen but I was wanted people thought on the possibility of this ever happening, also your thoughts on how best to do it and lastly your thoughts on whether you would invest.

TF:F being a collaboration of 2 games.. wouldn't that infringe on some form of copyright if you attempt to sell some of it? Or would it not matter since it is being made by a seperate party than that of TF / TFC?

Yeah, that's just what we need, mappers and modders whoring themselves out to advertisers. How about NOT?

It cost money to register a stockcompany, atleast in sweden. A lot of money too. Around $130.000 or so. But something like NS constellation-system would be great. I would become a member instantly.
Btw, and totaly unrelated, NS a game that would be kickass for the source-engine. |

Well it’s the future of gaming whether we like it or not.
We can either shape the future or let it shape us! |

You guys should implement a donation system just like NS has.
Give 15$ by paypal and get a little wrench icon next to your name on scoreboard. |

If you wanna avoid direct law suits all you need to do is take out any mention of "Team Fortress" in the advertising campaign of the web site.
Then the mod becomes a "Team based mod of Half-Life 2" instead of a licenced name. It's those little differences that put the law on you're side I learned a lot working for a lawyer. |
