Upgrading your computer.....????
Yes this might be a useless topic, but it might be fun to find out what you guys are doing. Who her is planning to upgrade their computer? Are you upgrading your computer because of FF, to meet the HL2 recommended requirements?
If you are upgrading your computer, what are you getting? What are you getting rid of? etc... Lets share! Me, hell yeah I'm upgrading my computer and yes, its basically so I can get a decent framerate in HL2 and its mods. I don't know much about what I'm getting because its from a friend. All I do know is that the processor is an AMD 3700+. Geez, that blows away what I have currently. And the video card is a PCIXpress card, which anything in PCIExpress is obviously going to be better than my current GeForce4 Ti4600. Can't wait for my upgrade, and also I can't wait to see how FF plays on my new shit! Last edited by o_tyrus; 07-25-2006 at 03:22 AM. |

Upgrading for upgrading in general.
Ditching the X800XL for 7900GT Ditching the Audigy 2ZS for Optical/EAX/DTS capable card Dropping the Samsung 17" 710T for Dell 20.1" 2007WFP AMD A64 3200+ is going to make room for AMD A64X2 3800+ Selling 1GB OCZ VX ram and buying 2GB OCZ set Possibly adding a second 200GB harddrive. |

My computer has always been bad. Going to buy a new one this summer and hopefully be able to run my games smoother, along with the Source engine.

My current system is a 3700+ Sandy, 7900GT, 2gigs of c2 Corsair 3200, X-Fi Music and a Samsung 930BF. Source runs flawlessly and looks beautiful on full at 1280x1024, and just about everything else as well (Oblivion and FEAR cant be maxed). So I said my computer rocks. With AMD's recent price drops I've been considering a 4800+ to fully maximise the 939 life span, but I reckon I might be buying a nice mandolin instead.

Meh, I'll just turn off all the fancy crap.
CS:S runs ok with the settings I'm using... but with all the action/spam in TF, I'm not so sure. :/ Anyway, I don't upgrade for games, I upgrade when I've got money to burn and there's a decent performance gain to be had at a reasonable price. |

awaiting my order, but the bastards at overclockers just set their due dates for the conroe processor back on the site, and so the delivery has so far not been arranged.

In with the X2 4400+, out with the 3500+
In with the 7900GT, out with the 6600GT. Jam an extra gig or 2 of Ram in. Rendering time |

I'll be building new probably in the beginning of 2007 closer to the release of Vista to make sure I don't screw myself out of features. Might as well make sure it's fully capable if I'm building new.
This is what I have now which is more than capable to last a few more months. Once I build a new machine most of this one will probably turn into a Linux workstation running Xgl and Compiz. P4 3.0Ghz HT (Northwood) 1 Gig PC3200 DDR 256MB NVidia Geforce 6800GT 74GB WD SATA Raptor (10,000 RPM) 250GB WD IDE |

i find it difficult to understand what your problem is. If you want a DX10 card then wait for one (and Vista) to come out and buy them. Problem solved and you'll avoid getting your panties in a twist.
Edit: Mmmm, panties!! |

Mmmm panties indeed. Anyways I will get DX10 because I upgrade my computer along the way, since I'm ordering it in February. So therefore by that time I'll have made sure to get a system with Vista and a powerful card capable of DX10.
