Awful TF2 Update >:(

I'm getting a new PC this Saturday and was deciding whether to play TFC, TF2, or FF more. I was going to play more TF2 due to this new SUPER AWESOME UPDATE announced a while back. Unfortunately Valve dropped the ball, and basically shitted on ALL of it's fans.

Yeah, TF2 has the grind of a MMO right now.

36 bullshit achievements (Uber Punching Heavies/scouts/other medics?) that range from insane to repetitive. For each of three imba weapons you have to unlock 12 of these bastards. Basically every weapon replacement is better than the other. This is ridiculous considering that this goes contrary to EVERYTHING I've read about TF2's design philosophy and Team Fortress games in general.

Plus there is a shitload of bugs, the whole deleted achievement fiasco, and 1000 people playing medics to try to farm achievements. Jesus...

The threads on the forums are comical. Obsessed Valve Fanboys who can't admit the giant fuck-up try to make "Counter-Threads" praising the "Awesome" update.

So Valve, until you fix this shit, I'm not playing. Expect me playing FF a ton when I get my new PC.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, having unlockable weapons is incredibly n00b-hostile, which I thought Valve was trying to get away from with TF2... Apparently not.

Yes, this is definitely true. The Ubersaw doesn't swing slowly enough to dissuade from using it. The new syringe gun is 1,000x better than the old one. The thing is, there are ways around the achievements beyond achievement_unlock_all and just farming them. I've got them all and it wasn't hard at all.

As far as bugs, I know Trauma Queen isn't working right (actually easier than the description states) but all the other ones are achievable according to their descriptions. And Gold Rush isn't bugged as far as I know.

But the slew of medics *is* a problem. Everyone knew it was coming the moment they announced all the changes were only for 1 class. People are playing absolutely horribly because people who never played medic are doing it for the first time, or ignoring teammates to chase people with bonesaws or whatever. They really should have released 3 classes like this at the same time. Its pretty rough and not much can be done about it other than have class caps or kick the idiots farming on a server while people are trying to play regularly. There are farming servers, go use them.

It's definitely not awesome. The slew of medics genuinely sucks, but hopefully they are learning that "forcing" people to unlock achievements as one specific class really is pretty dumb so they will avoid it in the future.

Gold Rush is a blast though and a really great map for spies.

I posted the crash-any-tf2 console command and was permabanned. I can't seem to log out after clearing my cookies and cache so I can't even view threads there.

In the code there are snippets that were added with the big update. They are encrypted and contain reference to weapon drops. The code allows guns to have randomized crit chances, firing speeds, clip sizes, and damage modifiers. So essentially the plans are there to allow collectible weapons with randomized stats like Diablo. That really ought to steam your carrots!

Personally I'm a little worried if they allow servers to mess with the settings and spawn uberweapons and use them on any server, but if done well I think it could be quite interesting.

Also, I extended an invitation for Peon to come play TF2 this weekend but he never responded.

I'm glad to see people here have some sense. Just at least tell me that if FF is ported to the OB engine they don't pull off bullshit like this. I hate seeing thousands and thousands of medics trying to pull off bullshit moves with bonesaws rather than PLAYING THE FUCKING GAME. I already sent them a complaint email, but they have no shortage of that do they? Valve has made their first major fuck-up (Correct me if I'm wrong). Hopefully this isn't a trend and they'll fix this shit. I really want Left 4 Dead to be good valve

Funny how I've been around here longer than Skanky and he labeled me as a TF2 fanboy/troll.

I like TF2.

I waited for FF since the day these very forums were open. I've checked this website nearly every damn day for a few years now.

I like the new update and it seems like the medic rush has toned down a lot. Goldrush is a fun map but near impossible to win with instant respawn.

I don't mind the new unlocks since I rarely play medic but it is pretty hard to win or avoid a stalemate when most of your team is medic. The achievements don't see that hard to "farm". I played for 30 minutes as a medic and pulled off 6 of them fairly easy. I would definitely prefer them to be available to all and just choose your loadout with your class though. Goldrush is just as fun to me as dustbowl though so the patch wasn't all too horrible.

I think the best alternative is a pseudo-rank where each 12 achievements ups you a rank ('Intern', 'Specialist' as ranks) visible to other players ingame, while not affecting gameplay. That way, no one would farm and there would still be a minor token for getting the achievements done, without pressure.

yea, pubs are lame now, and i just got all the easy achievements in a locked server with alike 20 people fun stuff, deff not worth the two hours i spent getting all of them

I played today for first time after the update, and helped some people get achievements while playing "normaly", like the Uber before round start or Saving a teammate from fall death. Later we were only 4 people on the server and they asked to do the achievements, and we did the Uber after enemy does, play doctor and got a few bonesaw kill on other Medics.

However, Medic play was only about 20% of what I played, while Pyro was probably what I played the most (not strange that Pyro is my most played and most points class >_> It almost doubles the Soldier game time)

Oh yeah, and playing a 4v4 with three medics in each team is just plain stupid. Still don't know how the hell we hold the Gold Rush cart in the last CP of the first stage with 75% Medics.
