Making a weapon model

Can somebody give me a quick rundown on how to make a weapon model that I can put into ff?

I've done modelling before and I'm using Softimage Mod Tool 6. I just need to know what files I need to export/make and where to put them to make them appear in the game.

EDIT: Actually I am asking how to mod a weapon model.

First, you need to know whether you are making a view model or a world model. a view model usually starts with v_ and is the weapon you see yourself holding in first person. World models (w_) are those you see on the ground or on other players.

You can usually get good results by decompiling (link) the model you want to replace and editing it. Decompiling is not always perfect, but with a weapon model it should give you the source files that you can compile with no trouble.

Anyway, import the .smd files you get from decompiling, delete what you don't want, and add what you want to add. Export to smd again, and compile the .qc file with studiomdl. The original model will be over-written.
