Gotta 30 GB Zune? You may have a paperweight...

Link to Engadget article

If, for some reason, engadget makes you soak your diaper just google for this...it's pretty widespread.

Cliffs Notes: 2006 model of the 30GB Zunes are bricking...firmware bug. Can you say "y2k-like"?

Then all you have to do is pull the batter for like 10 minutes, drain it, then charge and you're good or something. Funny how they used a different cmos/clock driver for the 30s and that's what effed the 30's up. *shrug*

Didn't the Zune feature a non-user accessible battery like the iPods? That "fix" may be easier said than done. Gotta love unhandled conditions in code that make it out as a release version...

No, it was a bug on how the thing handled leap years. All the zunes are fine after a day.

Interesting...wonder if the same bricking behavior is possible with the shifting of Daylight Savings Time?

Shouldn't be, considering that it's the 2006 Zunes doing it...

But yeah, sounds like Microsoft. Only thing that could make them fail harder would be to come out with a mediocre MP3 player that sells on the basis of fashion and to a huge fan base that would eat the vomited fecal matter of Bill Gates, ifunowatimean.
