STA-FF League Rule Changes

This is an echo of our league news:

Thanks to all of the clans that played last night in our first matches since last fall, and our first since FF v2 has changed this game for the better.

Our entry into FF League gaming is done for the sole purpose of increasing the visibility of the FF game, and to help the FF community grow. We will do our best to add to the excitement and interest that competitive gaming brings to a game.

Some of our matches went smoothly last night, some did not. A few problems were understandable, but others were a surprise given that FF clans are largely made up of experienced TFC players, ones I would have thought needed less direction from league admins. In STA, our Admins try to find the fine line between respecting clan leaders enough not to be overly directive, and yet providing enough groundwork so the league will run smoothly. Clearly we need to add to our foundation.

For our Regular Matches next week we introduce the following rule changes:

1. Rosters lock Wednesday night, thru Thursday night.
2. Gameplay Rules:
- Defense Player Limit of 4 players. (Players are counted as a Defense or Offense player based on positioning and movement. Any player who is to be counted as an Offense Player, and not as Defense, must maintain progress towards an offensive goal at all times. For example, Turtling by O players on a dropped flag is prohibited at any location in the map)
- Offense vs Offense Crossfire Limit (Crossfire is limited when excessive vs enemy offense, and also limited by location, for example spawn spamming or offense base exit spamming.
3. Class Limits - STA will be discussing specific class limits with each clan leader.

The details of each of the above will be added to our Rules in the next two days, if any clan has a comment, please contact me in #sta-ff. A draft copy will be on our STA-FF forums.

I assume that most clans had some experience with our STA-TFC 9vs9 Gameplay Rules, and also know how I have dealt with gameplay issues over the last few years. These issue will be dealt with similarly here, but there will be differences, given the distinct nature of the FF game.

As always, STA-FF welcomes Clan Leader input and my door in always open to any FF clan leader or player. Your suggestions are welcomed.

Did you just Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V the rules from TFC? It's worded differently, but I see:
  • No/limited OvO
  • Maximum Defender Limit
  • (Possible) Class Restrictions

You do realize this is the same shit that kept people away from TFC leagues in the later years? Why is it so hard to have a free-form league?

What, the enemy team all went HW? Go Spy. Cut 'em up. Hell, go all HW yourself. That might be fun.

Newsflash: Anything the other team can do, your team can do too. If you can't adapt to the other team's tactics, why the hell are you in a competitive environment anyway?

I've never been opposed to that, however that is not what the clans in the league want.
Join the league, express your preferences in our forums, and believe me when I say that clans will determine all policy, by their majority.

I understand that forums tend to attract those who want to voice complaints, I do ask and encourage the readers here to pitch in and help us build something that will help our game.

Ah, my apologies. I thought it was the league that was stifling innovative and interesting play instead of the same shit that was around for the last 8 or so years. I guess it's the clans, then. My bad.

imhi...i strongly disagree with you....

Look at TF2 leagues. Over 16k in the community. CEVO is probably the #1 league out there as far as organization and competition. CEVO has the best class restrictions 6v6 style you can ask for. Way better over CAL. Its all about finely tuning the game to make it fair for everyone.

So, yes. You should tweak the settings to make it fair. Like 2 engi limit in 7v7. I mean come on. I would even vote for a 1 sg limit if it were ever considered. I would also be down for a 2 mirv limit. I would say 1 hw limit if this were TFC however the HW currently is so useless I wouldn't care if you had 4 HW's.

Regardless, I think STA has a great background for having some of the best leagues out there for Team fortress style play (among other games). I think they know what they are doing, and totally agree with going with the majority of the clan leaders decisions.

Now we just need more clans to sign up! As well as sYn to not quit STA!!!!

Why quit it anyways???? Its 7v7 !!!! what more could you want

@ Ihmhi...yeah if you look at UGC all the rules that have been added have been decided by the clans...we had a free form league for a bit there...and actually it still pretty much is one, just a few rules.

Good to see that STA will be going along the same lines for their 7v league!

Might as well drop these here then!

-Engineer limit of 2.
-Max defense of 4 (which has already been implemented...)
-Non-excessive OvO allowed. This is very, very open to interpretation but I tend to define it as long as people are still going for the flag and not just sitting out in the yard waiting for enemy O to come out it's fine.
-Yard D of some sort allowed, at least for Snipers.

I suggest no more rules until the next update. One week of preseason is far too early to decide anything more. Let's wait and see how the game goes after the next release. We all know the devs have had solid feedback and suggestions, let them polish it up a bit more instead of rewriting the rules over and over again.
