Locking Threads
I find locking of threads to be a pretty serious problem on most forums that I have visited. Locking of threads, I believe, should be a last resort, such as when people break the rules and break them repeatedly without care. I've never seen this happen because usually members get warned, and it rarely happens again.
Sometimes forum discussions get locked because some moderator gets tired of it, or somehow thinks that locking the discussion will make people happier. In reality, people get pissed off, and annoyed that the thread they made over 20 posts got locked by some dumb moderator. That dumb moderator probably never made a post or even read 10% of the thread they just locked for fun. I really dislike when threads are locked to provide amusement to moderators. I want to make a formal protest because I believe locking this thread, does more harm than good. http://www.fortress-forever.com/foru...&postcount=109 But, what do you think? Should threads be locked only under the most extreme of rule breaking, or should they be locked by some punk moderator for fun? |

That thread was going nowhere. People were spamming, people were bitching at each other, the topic was left behind and instead people were just flaming each other and/or being unproductive.
If you don't like the way things are done, you can submit a complaint or go elsewhere. Quote:

yeah i just read through some of that thread, i couldn't see how it was going to get back on topic. but for other threads I see your point there have been some mindless locking of threads for no reason. or predictable trolling and flaming for no reason in serious threads too, which end up getting locked because of it.

That was easy, then.
Why a thread that's nothing but a bunch of personal attacks and winding around the same stupid question over and over and over and over and over was allowed to last so long in a supposedly flame-free forum is beyond me. The lock was long overdue.

An example I want to bring up this is thread I started and was locked within just a few minutes - http://www.fortress-forever.com/foru...ad.php?t=10508
And now here we are, the FF developers have mentioned releasing the game before the 17th. http://www.fortress-forever.com/foru...ad.php?t=10541 Quote:

I suspect most of the variations you guys see and/or complain about are due to the loose organization within FF. It's not like they have rigid rules and/or enforcement. It's going to vary some from moderator to moderator. Kinda how the cookie crumbles really.

i got no problem when a real dev locks a forum, i have respect for them, i just hate it when new guys abuse their powers
the only time i lock anything is if it breaks the rules. its not like a thread going off topic is a bad thing if theres nothing left to talk about on the topic

Oh god don't start whining about the Babes thread.
If you don't like the rules, go ahead and leave. Don't like the community? Leave. Don't like the mods? Leave. And PLEASE make sure your entire head is infront of the shotgun.

Now that the topic of releasing FF before the 17th has been brought up again, in a different thread and even on the FF home page, how about someone unlocking my thread. |

Not saying it was right to lock your original thread, but why unlock it now? There's already discussion on it in multiple other threads. What is so special about yours?

Considering that right now there is only 1 moderator (me) and the rest are developers (aka the reason these forums even exist), am I to take it that I am the "punk moderator" and the one who locks threads for "amusement"?
If it's unclear how to deal with forum issues, you can essentially do one of several things if you don't like how the forums are moderated: 1) PM the moderator in question 2) PM one/some/all of the admins/developers 3) Leave Bitching about it on the forums leads to nothing but ridicule, flaming, and the appearance that one needs some cheese to go with the whine. |
