Oh and here's my rant for the day!!!! If the dev team made journel entries more often, say every other day, I believe the rants for news update would drastically lower. Furthermore, it would also give us something to talk about in this now boring forums
I wrote about this idea earlier, I just felt like I should bring it up every time the public gets antsy for a news update. http://forums.fortress-forever.com/v...hlight=journal In the original idea I called for every day journals. Hell every other day would atleast be something. And that would only take 15-30 min away from each member every two months if you cycle through the members correctly(28 dev team members, a different one does a journal every other day until you cycle through the whole team). Is giving 15-30 minutes of your time once every two months really that big of a deal? Especially if it lengthens the patience of your viewer between news updates. Plus, it will help keep the enthusiasm of your audience. Oh I remember one of the dev. team members saying something about not always having something interesting to say. Just telling us what you have done is very interesting. And I am assuming 2 months time period, you should have worked on FF. Therefore you should have something you can put down in the journal. Anyways my rant is over for today |

I see what you're saying, xnarf. Not that you have to take my word for it, but I assure you there's been some damn good progress behind the scenes over the last few months (programming, maps, models, etc. etc). There will be more to show in the coming weeks, so stay tuned if you feel like it
Oh, and shaggy... In theory you've got a good idea, but realistically the dev journals tend to come out in bursts. It's supposed to be fun for the dev team members, as opposed to an assignment. The dev team members write them when they're feeling particularly inspired, or just when they want to have fun with the anticipating audience. I'm not going to delay releasing dev journals simply so they're spanned out better. On a side note, here's my rant. It's GREAT to see such enthusiasm and excitement surrounding FF. Everyone's got their right to bitch, but I will tell you that it's encouragement -- not bitching -- that drives us. Not to say I wouldn't be bitching if I were you ('cuz I would be heh). Think, though. If we receive this much flack over delayed screenshots... imagine if a day or week or month of an implied release date were to be 'delayed'

happy to learn that things are going well, because it doesn't look that good from where i'm standing.
it feels like the mod hasn't started campaigning yet and that nothing is really done to attract people. the forum is a bare minimum (i'm pretty sure doing a proper, original interface would attract people more than the default template does. even so, why hasn't a proper forum been done yet ? the 4 forums hardly cover the potential of discussion a couple thousand people could have : as far as i know, the largest of the hl2 mod communities). the sporadic and sometimes minimalist updates don't help much. i'm not saying i'm leaving or losing interest at all, this is THE mod i'm really waiting for, i check for updates daily, i regularly go to the forums. it's only that things feel strange, it's as if the mod hasn't really started yet (i know it has). according to the clues you leave, things are going to be pretty big and fortress forever is going to shake things up pretty hard in the tf and hl2 community. i can't wait to see what you guys are going to come up with. the only thing is that i, as a spectator, am pretty clueless at this point and don't really know what to do and expect. the mod has its ass sitting on two chairs, the one where you begin development, keeping a low profile and the other where you are catapulting media and hype on the community until the release. i guess you want to be up par with other media such as Forsaken or Dystopia's before "going big" and really trying to make an impression across the community but still, the position is uncomfortable. end of my rant. fried_bunny, don't take too personally the website criticism, i'm not putting in doubt the fact that you can do a good job, it's just that i haven't really seen any yet here is some encouragement, you know we love you guys : |

Fried, don't get offended by my post. I was simply ranting in a rant thread. I obviously GREATLY appreciate the work you guys are doing, and all of you know that we back you 100%. I simply wanted to say that so it would stop being in the back of my mind, and this thread is the best place for that. I don't think you are all a bunch of lazy do-nothings nor do I hate this mod, etc. I enjoy this mod greatly, and know you are all busting your asses. It would just be nice to be reminded of this once in a while. Hell, I would take a screenshot of some of Mulchman's coding as an update! It doesn't have to be in-game media...

i think regular updates create a buzz. . . like hl2.net or whatever that one gow guy writes for would post something there every week, and it would get alot more people excited about the mod, and hopefully build a larger playerbase. im going to play reguardless, but you cant generate hype around what seems like a dead mod by looking at the main page.

I really got to agree with some of these posts. I made a rant thread about updates before this one came, and basically these people convey the same feelings I have about this mod. You guys are doing awesome work, but your publicity is really, truly slacking. If you guys want that motivation from your fan/player base, then you need to have more updates to keep people interested. I know I've personally lost some interest as the summer has gone along (I almost thought things were changing with the last release, but then I ended up getting disappointed again).
I don't see why you guys haven't posted anymore Concept Art, because I'm sure you got a bunch. I'm also sure there's a lot more that's been done, but for some reason it doesn't come out. Now don't get me wrong, you guys are great with feedback, but you guys are a little too protective of your work. I know you guys want to show off a polished, almost-finished product, but to a lot of people its just not as important. I think a lot of the community would like to see progress made to get to the finished product, because at least if there's something A LOT of people don't like, it will be caught early on and not make you guys feel bad because of all that hard work done. For example, the images of rock2. It seemed pretty polished, but some people thought the walls were too bland and the railings needed to be different. You got some positive feedback and it's helping out. Just get out there, expose yourselves more, show more of the world this special thing you guys have. You may even need people to help network some publicity just beyond guys coming to the forums (like Azlan and his work at hl2.net). Hell, I'll do it in my spare time if you ever decide to - just know that it needs to be done. |

Stop talking about naked pics of the dev team, or how you wet your pants at the last media release. It's gross and nobody wants to know.
