Geo, are you aka Acid Breath??

I went to the second and third Quakcon and have not been back since. Its not that I did not want to go, its just getting the time and money to go. On my first trip to quakecon I got an autographed picture of Quake 2 by John Romero. John and I got to talk for about 15 - 20 minutes. He told me about Doom, Quake 1, the music to both games, level design, online gaming - just all kinds of stuff. There I was standing in front of, and talking to one of the greatest movers and shakers in the gaming industry.

When I brought my computer and monitor in, the people at the check in station put a sticker on my computer and monitor. They also wrote my name down. When you left quakecon, if you had a computer with you, you were stopped and asked your name. The number and the name you gave them were checked against the list.

There were a couple of security gaurds at the check in station, just in case anyone tried to leave with a computer that was not theirs.

Security guards also keep an eye on everything after hours. So when the doors were closed around midnight, you knew your computer was somewhat safe.

There was this huge freakin LAN set up with a T1. A lot of people had file sharing enabled, some people had shared their whole C: drive, while other people just shared certain folders. Browsing through network neighborhood was like looking through a library. There were hundreds of computers listed and tens of thousands of files. I almost filled up my 8 gig hard drive while I was there - keep in mind that was @10 years ago, 8 gigs was a big drive back then.

You never know who you are going to see or meet at quakecon. Another person I saw, but did not talk to was the guy who wrote CTF for quakeworld. He had this crowd around him, kinda like a fan club.

Quakecon is one wild ride, if you can go, you really should. It is worth the trip just to say you did it.

People were asked to wear headphones, but some people had their speakers turned up. The sounds of rockets, grenades and rock music echoed through out the center.
