As much as I hate dustbowl and as much as I despised the dustbowl valley video, this one kicked ass, so I'm glad someone was able to take it and make it into something that was actually enjoyable to watch.
I guess I'm just not into westerns... |

Apparently if you add "&fmt=18" to youtube URLs, you can force high quality playback (both video and audio).
So instead of these... http://youtube.com/watch?v=WI5wC9hJdCE http://youtube.com/watch?v=QhdVIlrZZAs These... http://youtube.com/watch?v=WI5wC9hJdCE&fmt=18 http://youtube.com/watch?v=QhdVIlrZZAs&fmt=18 Pretty cool. Apparently fmt=6 sometimes gives you HQ as well, but I've only gotten 18 to work. |

when you first start up FF and then get into a game, you can put this into your console...
record "filename" The file name can be anything you want it to be, but just don't put any spaces in it. and without the " Then after the game is done or when if you want to stop the demo record during the game you can type stop into your console. Then you can play back the demo by typing in... playdemo "filename" where filename is what you called your demo earlier. It will start up the demo and you can rewatch the game you recorded earlier. To record with fraps just make sure fraps was up and running before you started up frotress and then you can just record the parts you want. To help you with finding the spots you want to record at, in the console type... demoui this will help with fast forwarding and stuff like that. There is no real rewind right now, I hope that will eventually come in a future update if they are still working on it. Anyway there are still a large problem or 2 that I seem to have, not sure about others, when recording demos. If you want to record a demo you can't just start any time during your game. You have to start almost as soon as you get in, otherwise everything will lock up on you. Also I don't seem to be able to get a good demo recording when I have been recording and the map switches. When I start recording games, I always make sure its on a fresh start of FF and within a minute or so of when I first join a server. So far doing it this way, I don't seem to have any problems with making demos. But I do have the annoyance of having to drop off the server, close FF, wait till I get to the desktop, then start everything all over again and hope that the server is not full that I was just on. |

When I record with FRAPS I record at the same level as I play at. 1024x768, 32bit color and all settings on high. The raw video I am using looks great, but its something like a gig a minute.
The only problem with fraps that I am having right now is that for some odd reason, I can't seem to record sound with my current on board sound. I want to get a new sound card which I think would solve this problem, but thats not gonna happen for now. But for now I don't need game sound in my videos. |

Same thing, when I record a demo, I have all my settings up high. Even on my old XP2500 machine I never even noticed any thing wrong when I recorded a demo.
I'm still having a problem with a little too much compression in Premiere Pro (program I use to make the videos) but the uncompressed video looks just like what I have in game. I'll try working on some settings tomorrow when I have more time. |

I could understand lowering your settings if you have it set to super mega ultra settings just to make sure you have smooth filming. I get 30fps when doing my little in game clips and the video is nice and smooth.
Granted I could lower my video to 800x600 or even 640x480 and it will still look good, but most people can handle the video I put out so why not right? |
