@Mervaka: I don't know anything about Bangladesh, but as far as I know Pakistan was created arbitrarily by the British, in order to deal with Hindu/Muslim tensions, yet the borders of Pakistan were drawn without any real thought on the part of the British. As far as I know they tried to relocate thousands of Muslims into the newly created Pakistan, while relocating thousands of Hindus out. Lots of communal violence followed, and its all pretty nasty (hundreds of thousands of women raped murdered etc) It's still a contentious issue, so sites like wikipedia and even printed books usually tow one line or the other.

The only reason I know this is I had a class on it last year, taught by a Hindu woman.
