On a related note, consider the context. You've hot the Hidden, where invisibility is all this guy has, and you've got the Spy, where invisibility is one of many tricks. They could easily make him entirely invisible, and suddenly playing Spy in a busy server is a fucking cakewalk. If you're not paying attention, he can slip right by - sometimes right in front of you - but if you know what to look for he can be fairly easy to spot.

Invisibility is a handy thing to have but don't expect to be able to rely on it completely and slip by any defense. You won't stand a chance.
Actually, the sneaky bugger can make it past you in a 1v1!!

Personally, I think the spy is too visible to be usefull in FF, but then again I haven't really seen(?) it's performance on a populous server. And I seem to be in the minority on this anyway, so whatevs.

I dont agree Nezumi.

If you don't know the enemy team has a spy its hard to see. I was on Shutdown 2 for ages cloaked and no one saw me at all.

well if it does turn out to be too visible in the first release, it can always be fixed in a later patch..

personally i think the spy is maybe a little too obvious at a distance, but close up it should be fairly visible to any undivided attention.

Too obvious at a distance and too obvious closeup? Hmm?

Dude, if the courtyard isn't on fullbright, the spy is unbelievably hard to spot if hes crawling or standing still.

I remember when we were having a little funtest on rock2 and I was spying around in the dark courtyard, I counted like 5 people run past me multiple times until Ihmhi killed me with his DX7 hax :<

yeah thats the only bummer of The Hidden mod now

there's usually 1-2 servers with people playing and assholes like to revert their direct x level down so they can see The Hidden clear as day

I'm not sure which directx version it is (maybe 7 like someone else said) but maybe it's possible to program FF so that you have to have a directx 8 card or higher?

I mean really, it's not fair people with shitty computers get to play a mod and essentially cheat. Or do like The Hidden team is doing, if you're card is only capable of dx7 it will make the Hidden completely invisible, it's kinda unfair but they said it was the only other option to prevent assholes from cheating.

i think we've come to a point where DX7 users should be at a disadvantage now. we cant wait forever for them to upgrade to something DX9 compatible...

Yep, its going to be harder for older DX users to detect the spies to help deter people from regressing back to DX7. Even if everyone was running dual 8800's, people would who didn't care about pretties, only advantages, would have no qualms about forcing their hardware back to use the exploit.

DX8.1 hax, I am not running 7. Thank the BSG Gods my card is not THAT old.

I think I have the weakest card out of any of the testers and the game still runs fucking beautiful for me. Budget gamers, fear not, for FF will not rape your gfxzrz.

Pff, I first played TFC on a 4mb STB Velocity 128. Then I upgraded to a Voodoo3 3000. This was on a P2 233mhz. Oh, and dial up too.

The only problem with partial visibility is that the good player will always see it. A spy trying to get across the yard or past a narrow hallway is going to suffer if he has to do it at a crawl in order not to attract the enemy. I think the best way to go about it is to allow the spy to be invisible up to a certain point. Say 20 yards and farther. But within 20 yards, you see him partially cloaked when he runs.

Kinda like how WoW does stealth.
