FF Servers: Why Is My Ping So Volatile?
On public servers, my latency is ridiculous. It'll be 98, then build up to 320, then go down to 100, then rise to 230, then lower again, etc. Hell, if I view a server's "Game Info" whilst on the menu and hit the refresh button every 5 seconds, it's ridiculous what heavily contrasting ping values I get back.
I don't get this with any other game. Either FF's netcode is wonky on my computer. Or maybe those public servers are hosted somewhere cryptic. I doubt it, though. I'm a New Jersey resident and in TFC and TF2 I get better pings off of servers in the UK than some servers here in the states (luckily enough some of the best remaining TFC servers that are in the US are practically 1-2 hour drives from where I live). What's up? |

1) No, although there appear to always be one or two others on the server whose ping also jumps around a bit.
2) Not as far as I can tell. However it has pretty much always happened when I play shutdown2 - only for small periods of time, as I said earlier, but still - I've never played a full match on that map without it occuring. 3) Windows XP Professional SP2 Intel Pentium 4 2.40GHz Nvidia GeForce 7800 GS OC 256MB 1024 MB RAM I can get a good 40+ FPS on Fortress Forever with everything on high settings. I run it at 1280x1024. A lower resolution (1024x76 did not seem to negate the problem. 4) Seems to happen most frequently around 2-4PM EDT and 9-10PM EDT. 5) tracert 130.89.149.201 >C:\trace.txt Code:

Traceroute somewhere else and there at the same time, because the way that looks is that you're lag is coming from your specific house. You sure the constrictor worm isn't on your machine, cause it woke up today.

I wonder why he's going from a 192.168 to a 10.0... You got 2 routers hanging behind eachother perhaps?

Over here they set you up with a modem single IP, in order to run more than 1 computer you need a router or lan server. I believe all your routers start with a 192. number.
