Community Alert: Multiple Compromised Steam Accounts

Just a heads up to everyone. I know most of you are smart enough not to fall for this shit, but when I get this from someone who was for one reason or another on my friends list, I tend to give a heads up to the community.

Edit:

I've been informed by several reliable people that CUJO's account has been compromised as well.

This appears to be a script running through all the names on the freinds lists. People with them as friends, keep your eyes open. People with them as server admins, disable them for now.

thanks for making the thread, yes i have been compromised, i recieved the message from the same person as you, altohugh i was dumb enough to fall for it... it was sent by someone on the friends list so, i trusted it, any way im sorry for anyone that may have gotten this from me... i did not do it, it is the hijacker. spoon has jsut been hijacked off of me, i am currentyl helping him send a steam ticket to recover his account, if anyone else has been caught by this let me know i'll try and help.

once again im sorry, steam is usually pretty good with this, you should b able to get your accounts back soon.

still waiting on my account to return, until then continue to ignore my steam account, i will send a message out when its back so that people know.

im not sure what they are looking for... admin accounts for games, or maybe steam accounts that are linked to credit cards and paypal accounts.

However, I don't blame you. I'm more pissed at myself for even falling for this.
And at the lamer who did this, and also managed to fool some people on my list.

I sent my ticket the minute I realized I got hax'd, so now I'm at the the waiting game, just like many of you.

I, however, did some quick browising on that site and sent all the info I found there to Valve too, in hopes they're able to do something with this son of a mother.

once again im really sorry, not sure what else to say... its good that u sent that info to valve hopefully they can get something done... this thing spread on easter sunday though, i imagine the steam team had the day off, not to mention there are most likely hundreds of people sending in tickets (becasue of the nature of its reproduction and sending method) as well as people sending in ban requests on the poeple (they think) hijacked them. so this is going to be a really big mess for steam to untangle to trace back all the way to where it started... this may take a while.

Judging from what I saw at the Help Tips forum at the Steam Forums, this thing has spread wild, and, just as you said, it might take them a while to crack it.
But if they at least can get their hands on taking down that site, that'd definetely be a big bonus.

I warn ppl by copying the text in to their window, but makin the link not workable with signs like xxx.thesite.xxx.

I don't know about this since I gave Korey the heads up about it. He genuinely might have been tryin' to warn people.

So i didnt or was not going to anyways, i'm super careful on sites i get in pm's, i always ask the person friend or not, what is it.
