XSI's SMD exporter

I've got XSI Advanced v4.0, and I installed the latest exporter addon (It shows up in the plugin manager as installed).

But, how do I export with it? I would think it would be under File>Export, but it's not. Every tutorial I've seen assumes you're using the Mod tool, not the full version of XSI. It would be annoying, however, to install both.

I looked at the wiki and XSI's Mod forums (man do the Mod forums suck!)

I'm guessing you're pointing to this:

The problem is, I don't have "ValveSource" anywhere on the menubar.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the plugin a couple times. I didn't notice it at first, but after installing, the status bar would say "WARN: this plugin item is already registered..."

Which, of course, isn't true at all.

I scanned the Verc forums for a while and found some people having the same problem as me. Apparently, a later version of the tool fixed this problem for them. Not for me though

Boo. Is that the latest version, or every version?

So, I bit the bullet and installed the mod tool. It overwrote my preferences for my full version

Anyway, I can export fine now. Following the valve wiki tutorials, I compiled the model and my texture, and I made the qc and vmt files. I can view my model in the model viewer, but it's not textured. Does something in the qc file need to point to the texture somewhere? I don't see anything in the example qcs in the wiki, but I do see a "cdmaterials" command in most of Valve's qc files. I tried pointing it to the directory where I have my compiled vtf, but that didn't help.

I'm obviously missing something

I think the actual texture is listed in the .smd files.

Hmmmm. How does the SMD know where you put the texture, though?

I think that's what the $cdmaterials is for. You specify the folder. I think.

Yeah, I'm kinda surprised that command isn't listed anywhere in the sample .qc on the Valve Community wiki.

Nonetheless, I tried the command, but it didn't seem to help.

Hmm, well, if it's worth anything, here's my .qc file:

Code:
$modelname props_foliage/cactus.mdl

$cdmaterials "foliage"

$body "Body" "cactus.smd"

$scale 1.0
$staticprop
$surfaceprop "foliage"
$upaxis Z

$sequence "idle" "cactus" fps 30

$collisionmodel "cactus_physbox.smd"
{
    //Mass in kilograms
    $mass 350.0
    $concave
}

If you have your .vmt/.vtf in materials/models/props_foliage, it would need to be something like this :

$cdmaterials "models/props_foliage/foliage"

no?

Right now I have:
the .tga at "...\sourcesdk_content\hl2\materialsrc\foliage "
the .vmt and .vtf at "...\half-life 2\hl2\materials\foliage"

I also have the .mdl (and .vtx, etc.) at "...\half-life 2\hl2\models\props_foliage"

I'll admit I find Valve's directory structure a bit confusing
