FF Maps - Playtest and Feedback in HL2:DM
If there is interest among the community mappers I'd like to setup a test server for mappers that are creating maps for FF and a place for them to get feedback.
I'll include a function that will save user comments so people can "say" commands like "FEEDBACK: I think the texture in the first level room is a bit too stretched". I'll create a webpage for the mappers that will list comments, by map, by day. Each player will be allowed 10 feedbacks per map per day. Abusers of the function will have it turned off for them (and probably end up banned for being a llama). If you're interested in having your map out there for the looking prior to release let me know and send me a link to download your map. Maps should be playable in HL2:DM. Adverts (and server title) on the server will make it clear it is a FF test map sight and not a general HL2:DM server. This thread may belong in the mappers section, but I thought the regular users may be interested in the server as well. Thanks, Scuzzy scuzzy(-at-)oldtimersclan.com

Great idea, I might consider making my map playable for the server.

I also noted that the Epicenter beta2 map is 40 megs, which would be a killer on bandwidth... are all FF maps about that size?

ah yeah I hate sounds too. Seriously, it's not adding to the gameplay experience, it's just making me quit joining the server because it takes too long to download the sounds.

On a positive note, I really like the feedback system, gj!
And about the checkboard on walls issue, it's normal. Just don't alt-tab out of hl2. |

Oh and it would be nice to have cheats enabled by default on the server to be able to noclip and check the map out flying.

It actually doens't really download them everytime, it just "looks" for them... it only downloads them the first time. It's a pain, I wish it didn't do that, but steam has to verify every damn thing. Most of those sounds will be removed before we open our FF server, the only real ones we'll probably leave are the voting and motd ones.
I changed the feedback system a bit, made the webpage pull the mapnames from the database and show only one map listing at a time. We've already started getting feedback from users and I can see it wasn't going to stay organized well for long. Thanks for your comments, I really appreciate it. I hope the mappers understand you're all looking to help them and not criticize their work. I'm VERY impressed with the amount of work put into the maps so far. Any links to other FF maps will be greatly appreciated. If the dev team would like to add any of the maps they are working on I'd be happy to add them into the system. Scuzzy |
