Hmm no immediate ideas on how to solve that. Perhaps I recall something similar... err will have to rack my memory.

But if you want to set a resolution for now. Rightclick Fortress Forever in the steam library, go to launch options and you can specify a resolution in there.

-w 1920 -h 1080
-w 1680 -h 1050
-w 1280 -h 1024

whatever you need

-w 1024 -h 768 in launch options and no problem

Also, I guess you're newish? Dunno if you're aware but theres some problems with 2.42 at the moment. You will often expereience crashes when joining a populated server, also, you may get bad FPS. Just wait till the new patch (hopefully this weekend) and that'll all be fixed.

hmm not so sure about that.. Could now do with figuring out why it won't work for you.

Thought of something which might work as another temporary solution though.
Try putting the game in windowed mode using the launch option "-windowed" (without the quotes) then try setting the video settings.

If that works use "-full" to get it back into fullscreen mode. To be honest it might even fix the problem?!
