1. clean your computer(im talking about the dust and be careful not to break anything)
2. make sure your computer isnt overheating by checking the bios temperatures after an hour or so of gaming.
3. run a virus scan (trendmicro has a free one)
4. run adaware (free lavasoft adaware)
5. run ccleaner(free) cleanup utility and also the registry cleaner that is built in
6. update all of your drivers to latest versions from the mfg websites
7. disable any unused startup programs/services(depending on which os you're using, you can typically find a program to do this for you)
8. defrag your harddrive

is your pc acting funny or are you just trying to maximize its potential?

If you use Windows, you can use the performance thing that's included. It's pretty decent.

If you're looking for the general basics, it works just perfectly. If you're looking for exact specs, etc., then yes you're right.

It's just that I cannot run Metro 2033 or Crysis very well. Metro doesn't have a "best for your system" type setting, which is annoying. And no reset to default.

Maybe my PC isn't good enough? I don't know. Hene wanting the benchmark.

(At-least, I think so.)

It depends on the clock of your mobo. If your mobo has a ~1,200mhz clock, and you're putting in 573mhz RAM, then yea, it's shitty. If you want to get the full potential of your RAM, you need to match the clocks of both.

Another thing, Crysis is a game that's very intensive on your computer, there's really no need to play it on decent settings, it's just an advertisement for an engine. Metro 2033 is pretty much the same, it's very intensive, and in a lot of modern benchmarks, computer parts reviewers have substituted Metro 2033 over using Crysis as a benchmark. If your computer doesn't play these two games well, that's perfectly normal. Only people with dual GPU's, and top of the line mobo's/CPU's will be playing Crysis or Metro 2033 on high settings without a problem. If your current rig handles all other games perfectly fine, then I wouldn't honestly worry about it. Those two games are meant to be intensive, so if you're not performing so hot, there's absolutely nothing wrong.

Reponce about ram query: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...4#post18096834

Quote:
Looks fine to me... You double that number to get the 'speed' of the ram as it's "DDR" (Double Data Rate) so the RAM is running at 1146MHz

Which is pretty nippy

Here's a couple of things worth looking at.
  1. Examine your Window's Event Logs and see if there's anything of interest there.
  2. When your system is running slowly take a peek at the performance tab in the Task Manager...check and see if you're hitting swap also look at what's consuming both memory and CPU.
  3. Research your Samsung and Seagate drives...both have a history of flakey behavior...perhaps there's a firmware update for either or both?
  4. What type of SATA cables are you using? Cheap cables are a really bad move.
  5. What brand and model power supply are you using? Power supply is one of the commonly overlooked items in a PC and a common problem source.
  6. I can't believe that no one's mentioned drivers...how current is your system and it's drivers?
  7. RAM is something I'd consider upgrading if you have the ability to do so. Keep in mind you're running an x64 OS so 4GB doesn't mean the same as it does with x86.

There's more...but I figured that was a good start...

Run the 3dmark11 benchmark. Then you can compare your score and fps per test to other people with similar rigs. Run the test multiple times and compare your scores while making minor adjustments to your PC (OC, closing background processes, etc) to ensure your getting the most from your PC.

If you want a complete low down of your computer, software, hardware, network inventory, missing microsoft hotfixes, your anti-virus status, security benchmarks and other crap.

I would recommend downloading Belarc Advisor, http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

That is only the free version but it still tells you a hell of a lot about your PC and gives you some recommendations. Personally, I'd recommend just torrenting the full version unless you're strictly against that stuff, the full version does a lot more in fucking unreal amounts of detail and description. Might help you find problems that could be fixed to improve your PC.

Source: I was on a 6 month Advanced IT & Telecoms Apprenticeship and we received a full version of Belarc Advisor to play around with, which is a program many computer technicians would consider using to identify problems and security flaws in a system. It will tell you things you'd never even think to learn about your computer.
