is this BS or what?
I admire the optimism but seriously now, read through some of the article... this stuff is such bs.

I wish these people wouldn't get my hopes up for the science fiction-esque society I dream so often about.

Kurzweil has been right about many things though. I believe the law central to his beliefs and the predictions based on it to by and large be true.

100 years ago people didn't ever believe there would be something like computers. 50 years ago, it wasn't possible for computers would become small, personal machines. 50 years ago there was no such thing as manned space travel (even though that came only shortly after 195. I'm sure you get the idea. |

yeah i know, but i dont think in the time span that article is saying. in the 1960's japan thought that by 2000 we would be on the mars.

We have/had probes around on or in most planets in our system. We even landed one on a comet. A fucking comet! So the only thing stoping us or japan from the moon is money and political will. We've been spending money and probes and the space station.

i meant to say mars.
in other words, we think technology will evolve faster than it does. although we are in the age of computers, still. |

dude, the age of computers will never pass
Computers will accompany the human race for the rest of our existence, and will help us evolve technologically even faster than we would have without them. |

Well, some of us are already not completely human. A pacemaker is a computer which keeps you alive. Synthetic arms / legs are controlled via computers reading neural activity. You can already play FF with your mind (Google: OCZ Neural Impulse Actuator).
At what point do you stop classifying human as opposed to machine? If its a 50% thing, then some of us (the more unfortunate ones) are already machines. |

not true, its not i guess you could say, part of you. your not part of a synthetic leg, aside from a pace maker, and anything internal.

To make a broad statement like that you would have to define what is human. If I had a human head on the body of a monkey would I be human? The monkeys body is not part of me so does a functioning brain classify a human? Say it's a brain in a jar with some cognitive ability but no sense of the outside world... is it human? Just wondering.

That are way out of your league and will never talk to you. Better you learn it now than when you try something and make an ass of yourself.
