Stationary Gun Emplacements In Maps?

I found an old threat about this, but no answer was ever given:
http://forums.fortress-forever.com/showthread.php?t=461

In the same way some HLDM and TFC maps had gun emplacements to use, is there anything equivalent in Source/FF? I haven't touched Hammer in ages, so I have no clue and nobody seemed to know a year ago, either. Just a thought, as those were pretty fun on some maps.

It can be done but it's often incompatible with most mods because of changes to the code.

I'm interested in this as well.

I suppose you could decompile one of the single player levels (just before the airboat) and see how they coded that combine turret. I might try that myself once I get my main computer back up and running.

One of the vmfs that came with the SDK has one of these guns already (I think!), so you don't even need to decompile.

OHHHH, you mean AI controlled ones? I thought you meant player controlled ones. I don't know if you could pull that off. Might need some help from the devs.

hl2 had these so I don't see why source/ff can't.

I'm unsure which Nezumi was referring to. I meant the player controlled ones though.

Yes, the player-controlled ones are what I'm talking about.

I'm not sure which one I'm reffering to, actually. But I think the AI controlled ones can be player manned too. Or at least some of them.

the problem of the new turret system is that it needs a model for it, only one is provided with hl2, if someone wants a prefab of it just ask me and i'll upload one (prefab includes npc_enemyfinder and playercontrol)

It's called a func_tank and the gun model is purely optional; you can make the gun out of brushes if you want (though a model would look much better).

They should still work unless the FF coders do something to break it. If you are thinking about AI-contolled turrets, I think those might be more likely to be broken in multiplayer.

Stationary guns aren't that great in TF maps because they are hard too balance. While you use it, you're either a sitting duck or you're way too overpowered. It might be interesting as a tactical point on an AvD map, though.

Pretty sure by default mod code the turrets are broken, lack of predictions or something.

I know this would be a significant load on the devs, and I'm probably stupid for asking... but would it be possible for the engineer to create a turret that COULD be player-manned?

I didn't read through this thread, but we brought up how it'd be nice to be able to arbitrarily place sentry guns and then set them up in Lua.

I would talk about all the cool shit we talked about, but at the time Patty was against it, and he was doing the Lua implementation, and so it didn't happen.

I still want it to happen, and so it will happen eventually.

There's so much of that "cool shit" that we wanted to do, but that shit ain't gonna happen for the first release, but it will happen later on or I'll fucking set fire to a baby farm.

I liked my idea of being able to define, in a map, new sets of objects or groups on entities an engi could build.
