God damn I hate it when people talk about "TFC2".
Are they refering to TF2 or TF: Source? |

"TF2" generally refers to "Team Fortress 2: Brotherhood of Arms," the game that went nowhere.
"TFC2" and "TF: Source" generally refer to the TFC port to HL2, by Valve, that may or may not be in production. The way I see it, they were working on TF2 while developing the Source engine. Two things happened. Source showed massive capability to improve on the negine they were using for TF2, *and* they took over Day of Defeat, which (by the looks of it) is, basically, what they were planning for TF2 anyway. So they put TF2 on the backburner without saying anything else, because that's the kind of people they are. Now, with DoD:Source practically done, any reason they have to do Brotherhood of Arms is essentially gone. Any Team Fortress game they make for Source will probably just be TFC2. This also helps to explain their weirdness about discussing Fortress Forever and why they took to Day of Defeat so readily. Of course there's a 90% chance I'm completely wrong.

From what the initial screens of TF2 it looks like what BF2 is. Now that EA is Valves commerical publisher as well...things look dodgy.

I'm going to go start a thread dedicated to counting the number of times a person with a post count of less than 15 started a thread about 'Where is TFC:S, TF2, etc'.
It will be a popular thread in which everyone will post, damnit. |

TF2 was at E3 at '98 or '99, putting it at over 6 or 7 years of development. TF2 has shifted engines numerous times. I believe it started off as a Quake2 mod, then a HL mod, then a standalone game on its own engine, and now probably on the source engine (i think there may be another one in there, not sure). As someone stated above, the reason Valve gave for the delay was due to the development of the source engine. |
