Well, that's their whole point, being SHOCKING tbh. Did they, or did they not just get the desired reaction?

When you listen to it you don't even know what he's saying anyway. Those lyrics could be made-up.

Yeah I used to all-out hate all rap/hip-hop, but then I found the stuff that i kind of like.... which would be:

Bushwalla, Damian Marley, Falco, G. Love, Gnarls Barkley, Gorillaz, Immortal Technique, KRS-One, RAWSteady, Ozomatli, Promoe, Saigon, Slightly Stoopid, 311, etc.

What does someone saying that hurt you? It's just a few words. If you don't want to listen to it, don't, but don't forbid someone's right to say it.

No one's making you listen to it. That's the thing. Kind of like when people bitch about what's on TV while there's a remote an inch from their fingers. If you don't want to hear it, you don't have to. But don't say that no one's allowed to hear it because you don't want to, that's incredibly selfish of you.

You do know that there's quite a difference between speaking or singing those words than actually carrying out the actions they depict, don't you?

Also, circ after listening to that genre for quite a while you start to understand what they're screaming tbh, it may be one or two words at a time but it'll get there eventually :F

I don't think this would qualify as freedom of expression. They are just depicting disgusting, twisted scenarios for the sake of shocking people. I know, that's a form of expression too (in a way), but I doubt they have a good reason for it other than wanting attention, so IMO they went too far. Where to draw the line is personal, but the way I see it, freedom is often abused and I would like to think this one of these cases. It certainly doesn't contribute to anything.

If they wanted attention, they wouldn't be as underground as they are. Their goal was to shock people with the sickest death metal ever created. Greenday supporting the band his name is based off of gives a good idea of the music he likes. That's part of the goal. If it offends you, too bad. Suck it up and learn to differentiate music from reality. For example, the blond haired guy in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MH4P2WudnY Is actually a great friendly guy, as displayed by this interview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3ngfv_5y3o To be honest, my sadistic asshole side is quite happy you're upset. It's funny .

If you think that takes no skill, try singing like that. Seriously. I don't mean making some grunts and laughing with your yuppie friends. The guttural vocals Devourment showcases are extremely hard to pull off. The drums... they speak for themselves. The guitars, try playing those riffs consistently. As Atticus Finch said: "Wear the other person's shoes."

If you don't like the music, good for you. I realize the irony of my criticizing other people and bands, but when you compare people who rap about how "I banged his hoe, he banged mine, so I popped a cap in his ass," and sell it to suburban white kids, you're doing nothing but profiteering off of bullshit. Underground death metal bands like Devourment are faaaar from profiteers. The band hardly stayed together because there was little money in it.

Why does it have to contribute to be acceptable expression? Meet The Spartans and other shit movies like that don't contribute anything. Am I asking for them to be banned? No, I just don't go to see them. Same basic concept.
