Have you had any response from Valve about this mod?

I think this mod is looking great from the first models, and I'm VERY excited to see something like this take shape. However my major concern is that it will get shut down by valve because of legal reasons. Have you heard anything about this at all? Do you have any indication that they are ok with it. I truely hope the best for this mod, and I will definately be playing it if/when it gets released.

Valve has never shut down a fortress MOD on a rival engine, so I doubt they will shut down a fortress MOD on their own engine. Whichever product people choose to play, they win regardless.

If the fortress franchise has got some legality to it, I'd say it's under the GPL (General Public Liscence) if any at all...

THere are millions of Fortress mods for many games. VALVe alone doesn't have the right to shut down a fortress mod, for as long as it doesn't impose on their name "Team Fortress Classic." Team Fortress of Fortress for that matter, aren't copyrighted material.

That's a very good point...

And I just thought of another reason why they shouldn't be able to touch this. TF came out as a Quake mod, & Valve just re-created it... so they wouldn't have rights in the first place. Gosh, I feel dumb for not having thought about that before. Sorry for wasting everyone's time... this Mod is good to go.

GOOD LUCK TEAM!!!

I was referring to the question of the thread poster regarding the source engine. I meant whichever version of the mod they play (FF/TFC:S) valve wins regardless as their product is needed to play it.

Oh and Valve bought the rights to QWTF then hired the original developers as staffers for development of TFC/TF2. Valve does own the rights to TF gameplay afaik.

If it were a direct port then maybe it would cause problems, but I've played similar games to TFC in real life, Valve can't copywrite capture the flag with paintball guns.

Even the name is legal, Fortress Forever is far enough from Team Fortress. FF may have been inspired by TFC, but NS (natural-selection) was inspired by the Alien movies and Starcraft, neither Blizzard of Universal Pictures has sued the NS devs because it's not a direct copy of their ideas.

I'm seeing no problems with this at all.

BTW, hi qballer

What ever happened to the original creators of TF anyway? They were called TFS and were based out of Australia I think. Are they still working for Valve? If they are, it's disappointing that they allowed Valve to neglect TFC for so long. First taking a backseat to CS and then DoD. It's like we're the red-headed step child of the Valve family. So many balance problems and bugs that were never addressed. When they do add something, they freaking add teleporters which the community never seemed to ask for in the first place. I know they must be real busy working on TF2 but still..... if they don't care about TFC anymore, they should've at least handed off the reigns to people who did. I'm glad they aren't making TFC Source because it's better for the community this way. The FF guys still seem to care about TF and will hopefully give it the proper treatment it deserves.

We had toyed with the name Team Fortress Forever but dropped the team part. We were slightly aware Valve could get arsey about the name but Fortress Forever also sounds a bit better!

Im sure i read on the etf or q3f forums that the q3f creators did have some contact with doug lombardi from valve about their mod and they were asked not to use the "team fortress" name and also to change some of the class names.

I dont know if this is a problem or not but its worth bearing in mind.

Before anyone gets confused, I am [SCW] spud and not LBU| spud.

LBU spud was a good friend of mine. We chatted a lot and we would show each other new TF tricks, think I learnt bunnyhop first from him lol.
Lost contact with him when he left gaming in search of a real life but would be ace to see him again.
