ff_speedyctf [beta1]

Speedyctf

Screenshots:

No snipers or scouts the map's small size demanded it, there are a few bugs
which is why this is a beta release it needs a playtest to see how it plays.


Known bugs:
Blue FR jump pad lights bugged
No cubemaps so specularity looks weird on sgs etc.

Please critique and test, It should be highscoring and fast gameplay.

Trust me you would cap in about 5 seconds as a scout, there's fast then there's that!

Instgib meh I didnt think it was worth it and couldn't do it how I would like.

Hey, I remember seeing this map before. I think it was the one time when I played Warsow. Yeah, it had an instagib weapon and I wanted to remake it for FF but I couldn't figure out a good way to do instagib so I stopped bothering.

Why not keep scouts but not let them have concs or man cannons?

If I went with instgib I would have a slow firing and accurate 1 shot kills weapon and everyone walking fast but probably take out concs as there would be no way to defend against them. Probably everyone as a given class too.

I think I asked about this before, changing the weapon's characteristics isn't really possible, and weapons which are accurate dont have a slow rpm, and allow you to move normally if they do. One possibility would be removing the slowdown on the sniper when charging and making the weapon automatically charge only allowing firing at a certain level of charge.

So that would require:
Eliminating sniper charge slowdown
Automatic rifle charging
Client based system limiting when the player could fire (avoiding killing the server with checks).


However I think how it is at the moment may just work out OK so thats why I want to playtest it to see how it works out. On my own I found the scout to be too powerful but this was without defence obviously so is subject to change if the playtest reveals it would be OK(?).

I tried this map yesterday for the first time, here's my reactions:

It pretty much always ends up beeing a big crapload of spam on the flag with less tha 5D cause there's no way to cover the entrances so it's like having a huge arena with a flag in the middle and the only way for the defense players to defend is to stay on flag and spam the shit outta themselves with the help of the offense of course. If you spam the flag enough you get to kill the attackers sometimes, but more often then not the spam ends up pushing the attackers and the flag out of your reach.

Also, the FR is just so big that SGS are completely useless unless you keep building them right on the respawn exit and expect to have to rebuild every 3 seconds because attackers will just easily spam the front of the respawn to destroy SG.

But with 5D it should be good, haven't had the chance to try it.

yep

Great looking map. Great for 4 vs 4 or so. Problems with it: Spam map/ impossible to defend/ fps issues.. generally have 150 there i have 60/ for a lot of players trying to download it from the server .. shows something like ur version differs from the server one.. samething with wellfortress/runoff/dm_squeek
