An Anti Mirv Thread

I believe that mirvs are a source of skill-less killing, spam, and lag. They equate for a bad time. I feel like they were put in the game of FF just because they were in TFC, and nobody could think of something to improve them, and they came out the same. Why? Nostalgia is not a reason to keep such a destructive element in a game(no pun). Why cant there be a less laggy, less spammy, more skillful grenade 2 for demoman and heavy? Whats the big deal with coming up with something different?

In pickup games, you should see how good demoman abuse mirvs. They spam the shit out of them on flags, kill themselves, and do it again. Not always intentionally. They know people are coming into the base in a few seconds, and they throw 2 mirvs down and watch people die. Its not a good element in a game. Yes, i want the demoman to be able to blow the shit out of stuff, but this nade is doing more harm than good for the game. It turns out in some games that the demo has more kills with mirvs (teamkills too) than they do with their pipelaunchers.

I completely disagree with the current grenade, and call for proceedings on brainstorming of new grenades that can make the game more fun. Dying by a randomly thrown grenade that massacres both teams and pcs alike is just something that we shouldnt have to stand for. Dying by spam is annoying, everybody knows it.

It can still be a big grenade. I want it to be big, thats what demomen are for. Maybe something that eats less server resources, spreads less, requires more accuracy, and is also really cool. The right ideas can be great for the game. We dont have to settle with half-assed ideas because they are nostalgic.

I think he is aiming for something a little more original, though I'm sure that that alone would already be better than the mirv.

Anway, I always thought of something that had a relatively large knockback as this would help the demo in keeping enemies away from the flag. I suppose damage would be upped as well, but only when close to the explosion to be noticable.

That is a fantastic idea. A mini detpack-ish grenade (same explosion effect could be used) that does little to no damage but pushes like a monster.

Push grenade for the demo, flak for the HW?

EDIT: Or even the reverse for the demo. A pull grenade that pulls people towards it. Throw it on a pipetrap, pull people in and det.

I liked the old TFC 4 mirv limit. Does anybody here remember those days? Total undiluted-spam and guaranteed many kills!

Black hole grenade? :P

Edit: I just realised, a large knockback would basically make it a conc which I don't think is the idea. So based on that I'd vote for squeek's reverse idea.

its ironic coming from you because anytime i see you in a server your usually a demoman camping enemy base/respawn

but for your argument, id have to say go play tf2 with no grenades.

and spamming mirv on flag to defend is a great strategy.

the only thing wrong with mirvs is they can lag server a bit...
but the lag is not bad enough for me to want them removed from the game.

Mirvs can be used as a strateic way to pass a defense. If you throw a mirv to a position where a defender is, he will run and you will have 1 second to pass that position. This can be made in some maps very very very eficiantly. Belive me it can be used very strategicly. Most people dont use it like that cause it is hard. =AS= Ze use them quite well.

Mirv's arent just spam, but i like the idea of changing. If it is for better, cool.

horrible thread/idea imo. stop crying if you get killed by anything less than an uber quad damage rampsliding double back flip rpg airshot that was preplanned three weeks ago.

Spam is part of TFC/FF. It adds humor and lightness, and now more than ever is a crucial differentiation between tf2 and ff.

For the record, I have no problems with the mirv. But I could see changing it with something else on the demoman, maybe leaving it with the HW.

But back to the demoman:

Maybe a giant, hand held sticky grenade that sticks to walls/floors for the remainder of their timer before exploding with a larger splash radius than a regular grenade. That allows for a benefit in aim to be used. Plus, when time right you can stick it to door frames and hallway corners to blast incoming enemies. So it's a easy to use, but requires skill to use better sort of a thing.

Only thing I don't like about the MIRVs is when I run around a corner into the clusters already on the ground. I have enough time to think, oh crap before I die.

I also wouldn't mind them doing more damage to the SGs that people put on the little bridge by the button and door on Aardvark. There have been many times I fly up there as a demo and get the MIRV right under it, and I see it glow once when it explodes but thats it.

Personally Mirvs are not altogether skill less. If time right and used in conjunction with other weapons they can be very deadly. If some is spamming the flag with mirvs then you need to use your leet skills to get around it. What I'm hearing is your tired of getting owned by mirvs that you know will be spammed at the flag. yes they lag the server but so does a lot of other stuff.

You think having eight solders on a pub doesn't add to the lag? It's not just the mirv it's all explosions going at the same time.

love u too
anyway i think mirvs are fine, thats mainly the best demo weapon, ff gameplay is balanced in my opinion, the last thing i would like to see is to week more defensive classes such as the demo.

the problem with ff have nothing to do with ff gameplay tbh, only with advertising/competition with similar modes

That's a great idea, but maybe fore HW instead. It'll be like Gunbound using my favorite character JD's 2nd attack!

Brilliant idea! Pulls people twds the explosion of the nade, giving the HW a bit better aim.

Why go back that far? The Tripmines in HLDM were pretty nice. Imagine a concing Scout hauling butt around a corner into the laser trip wire.
