Map Idea: Grinder
So while I was mulling over the idea of ragdolls as balls (from the thread on Dustbowl in the I&S forum) I thought of this map idea:
I could make a rats Kitchen style map where the objective is to get as many enemy corpses into your meat grinder (or garbage disposal) as possible! When you kill someone, you whack their corpse with a crowbar and it gets attached to you (somehow - over your shoulder a-la science & industry, or you just drag it) and you carry it back and toss it in the grinder and get your team a point! The Poll asks: Would you play this map? I ask: Criticisms? Opinions? First thoughts? FF Team: Would this be possible? Last edited by o_imbrifer; 09-16-2006 at 10:45 PM. |

i dont think i would.
dm maps get boring enough but this just seems tedious. it doesnt leave much room for gameplay innovation... not a whole lot of practical choices for racking up kills imo. |

i hate the idea of dragging the corpses, i think you should have to juggle it with rockets, grens, pipes, concs, etc. i would play that.

Err, didn't make it clear: It's a team game - one team has a disposal, the other team has a meat grinder - so to get team points you dump enemy corpses into your respective grinder.
I suppose it could be 'juggle the corpse with explosives', but wouldnt that get super-tedious? |

your other problem comes with the same problem spy-feigning had. ragdolls are choatic and client side, so there will never be a time when the same ragdoll is in the same place for two people.

Would they not be in the same position on the map or just not laying in the same position?
I think if the ragdoll falls in two different spots within a map, then wouldn't demo's look odd when the same even shows two different scenarios? |

its random. in truth, it doesnt matter where they go since they dont truely collide with anything of importance. (ie the players, entities)

I suppose I assumed that they could make them serverside for a specific map, if needed, based on what MrBeefy has said. Other FF team members have also said the equivilant of 'anything is possible with LUA' Can we get an official word, FF team? Is this possible? |

FF_fastfood
you could mkae it so each base is a fast food restaraunt which has a grinder, and theres a farm in the middle (or a farm in each base), and you have to shoot a cow that ragdolls but gibs apart into your grinder to make burgers. The more burgers, the more points.

Yeah, anyone know of any sexy cow models?
I'm sure itd make it a lot easier on everyones machines (and the server) if it was just the cows (and not the players) ragdolls. On the other hand, itd lose the TFC 'wacky' factor of combined Rats maps (which have a special place in my heart) and throwing players' corpses in meat grinders One possibility with the whole netcode thing (assuming its an issue) is that.. well.. it not be an issue. If the client tells the server 'hey, ive got the corpse' the server says 'okay' even if it looks like im whacking empty space on your machine. And then once you kill me and pick up the corpse, your client tells the server 'i got his corpse' and the server says 'okay' and your client says you toss my corpse into the grinder and the server says 'okay'... so it might not be an issue, just look funny - y'know? Anyway, if it was the cow-and-grinders map, it would be some half-mutilation of a fast-food joint, or something entirely new: fast-food joints aren't very conducive to TFCish movement. |

It works for HL2DM so long as you make the cow a physics prop or somethin'.

de_rats was good. The TFC version wasn't as much fun.
I think player death-spawned ragdolls won't line up on everyone's machine but prop_ragdolls will, or something. I'm assuming you can place one with one of the class models. |

a fun map would be where its two ships and the idea is to cap the flag somewhere inside the other ship. like only pirate boarding! wow what an amazing map idea.

What if you had two teams and two v.i.p's (one for each team) and you had to use nades, rockets, pipes, concs and the like to get the enemy V.I.P into your grinder while the enemy team was trying to do the same to yours.
To spice it up abit make the V.I.P's immune to everything except say the V.I.P umbrella attack and give them like quaddamage or something so that all it took was like 1 umbrella hit to own someone and then make it so they cant walk like in the minigolf maps. I'm figuring 1 hit umbrella kills for V.I.P because they wont be able to walk and might as well give them some fun to have. |
