SLI is great. It's like future proofing your PC. No need to buy another vid card for 5-6+ years. As a comparison, I'm running games like Age of Conan on the highest settings at some 120FPS with my 9600's. My pop who has 1 9800GT gets about 70FPS.

The same thing happens in HL2 games. The only game that my SLI doesn't get along with is EQ2, and the power of my PC is greater than the game anyway, so I get about 200-300FPS on max settings. Very similar to what I get with HL2 and FF.

EQ2 also doesn't like Dual and Quad cores =\.

But, all in all, SLI will save you some good cash in the long run if you get good SLI cards.

SLI was designed for CAD applications.

Says who? Modern SLI branded by NVidia is designed to render 3D scenes. Indepedent of what is doing the rendering. CAD application OR games and Invidia definetly pushes gaming technology in reference to SLI.

It was in the same school as AMDs FX processors. Only after it hit the gaming and enthusiast market was it aimed at gamers and the like. It offers a performance boost, yes, but at a great cost. Personally I find it retarded, but that's just me. I hate everything. Including Credge's flawed logic.

I don't think my improved performance over non-SLI users is flawed logic. But sure, whatever floats your boat.

I mean, I'll put it to you like this:

One 9600 in FF gives me about 300-350 FPS.

Two 9600's in FF gives me about 550-575 FPS.

Give or take a couple hundred for both depending on how much action is going on.

Even further, though, your logic about "it being designed for CAD making it inferior" is about as viable as saying "WD-40 was designed to get rid of rust meaning it can't be used for anything else". If anything, that is flawed logic.

I disagree. It was dev by 3dfx, I had the Voodoo card that supprted it. When Nvidia bought them they shelved it until 2004 and rolled it out under a new acronym. And since 3dfx was basically a gaming card...

In fact autocad ran like shit on the Voodoo if I remember right. SLI was aimed at games since it's launch.

Well I fired of the new rig today... I get a constant 300 FPS with all the goodies turned on. That is, with a few players on a map, and the maps look fantastic with the newer video card. Can't wait until one of the servers fills up to see how the FPS does.

One thing cool I noticed is HL fired up with a message, 64 bit mode enabled. Outside of special effects HL2 feels pretty much the same.
