My biggest beef with this game.

Why does the sniper rifle gib more than the rocket launcher?

the graphics and animations are a bit lacking. id like to see headshots work mroe like the head explodes and the rest of the body just collapses it add to epicness. however this takes time and effort.

I don't know.

Because sniper is the most imbalanced class in the game is the short answer.

Classic TFC mostly. I remember playing classic TFC and blasting someone with a fully charged sniper shot. It was so satisfying to see theme explode. It's an animation. I don't know that it's all that important to me. But I've never placed visual appearances as an importance to game play. I'd be more concerned about balance... which there have been many discussions to. My opinion will waiver back and forth.

I must ask, while I cans see how it would bother someone.... why does it bother you so much specifically?

I agree that the gameplay is what matters most. The whole rocket launcher not gibbing is really just a bit of a pet peeve of mine. It's like you said the sniper rifle is for you in tfc. It's just a really sastifying part of gameplay for me when my rockets blow people up into little itty bitty blood pieces. This thread was mostly a light hearted joke.

But it's just kind of silly how my explosives only ragdoll people when the sniper can just blow stuff up.

yea, you just need sv_cheats set to 1.

Blood clouds when shot, and especially when gibbd would look purty. FF with l4d2 style gibbing would be glorious

I guess I can at least use it for recording then. So that's nice. I don't mind to much when I play. But it'd be awesome if one day that value was tweeked a little or changed for different weapons.

No, you can't. It's a static definition in code, not a convar. I could easily make it a convar though.

EDIT: It'll be a convar next patch (ffdev_gibdamage) and it will require sv_cheats.

Awesome. Do you ever for see different values for different weapons? Like so much damage of overkill on the rocket launcher. No gibbs on hit scan. So much overkill for the sniper rifle? Because sniping people into gibbs is admitedly awesome.

Personally, I think that shouldn't need Cheats. Since it's client side only, that should be part of the standard options.

Would it be difficult to add that?

Ok, how difficult would it be to make it client side? It seems like more of a personal preference, than something servers should control.

I agree that, if it is possible it should be server side, and not require sv_cheats. I also like lots of gibs, and ragdoll physics while tons of fun works great when mixed in with the gibb at a good balance. This would let us all play with the setting.

Exactly. Not everything should be gibbtastic. But it could use a little nicer balance than it has now.

It's really weird that you started this thread 2 days after I started a thread in the staff section about ragdolls being everywhere, being distracting and never gibbing. Like someone can jump in, grab your flag, and you can det 8 pipes with 2 ragdolls on top and the bodies flying around makes it a bit hard to see whether you actually got him or not, and if you didn't, where he went.

I was watching some gameplay and it struck me how often the dead ragdoll of someone would go flying across your view, which while kinda funny (although it gets old fast), is potentially really confusing when you need to make such fast reaction shots and decisions.

I'd like to see gib threshold reduced, ours is -100, in quake1 it was different for different monsters, starting at -35 for humans and up to -80 for the big monsters, so something like -60 would probably be fine..

Ideally i'd like to gib ragdolls too, but thats slightly more complicated
