Made my morning..
Heard about this site from an old buddy and had a near jaw dropping reaction when I saw all the goodies...
Just wanted to say very well done guys. I'm also curious as to how you intend to compete with TF2? (Even though I guess the major difference in the way the games look will be a good way to set them apart.) Last edited by o_unrivaled; 07-20-2006 at 05:01 PM. |

They aren't going to compete. If anything TF2 will help this mod out by bringing people into the HL/HL2 TF community.
Welcome to the forums. |

Not to start a controversial discussion but, while it is true TF2 will bring more people to TF games, now two mods will have to share a community, contrarily to before where only FF existed, and thus had the "monopoly" on it. Plus no word if all the people that will play TF2 will get to know about FF (unlikely, given the mass of people that just play whatever's on their "my games" list).
I don't know what your definition of competition is, but this sounds textbook to me. |

http://www.tfleague.com/banlist.php There are many hackers in TFC. Those are the biggest North American leagues for TFC and as you can see this game has had a fair share of great history with hackers. It's a great community for sure. Many close friendships out there. But with a game that has been around for 6+ years many people have developed their own hacks that are un-logged. As far as cursing and trash talking and hate... maybe you're not aware of the cesspool. The quality of post/flames has gone downhill for a couple years now... but occasionally a nice flame fest thread pops up http://forums.thecatacombs.net/forum...p?s=&forumid=8 ^enjoy. |

did somebody say h4x!?!
I also disagree with the idea that TF2 is going to help FF. Sure it might mean many thousands more people will download FF and try it but ultimately I think very few will play two fortress games - they will play the game which is the most fun/best. I especially think the idea that one will be for fun and the other for competition is ludicrous. I suppose from the point of view of the devs of FF, I hope that their game is more fun to play than TF2. Despite the fact that TF2 is clearly prettier I do think that gameplay is more important. Although on a positive note, even if FF never really gets going then the devs can be proud of their achievments which I suspect will see them making the best fortress game ever, apart from TF2. Then if the TF2 community grows and the FF community declines at least there will be an established bunch of fortress talent to quickly customize the TF2 scene. |

First Out
I think a key for FF will be to actually be out BEFORE TF2 comes out. Like many things in our society, many times it is the first thing out that does the best. Certain drugs, technologies, etc, many times just being first gives you a HUGE advantage over the incoming competition. I just wish FF could be delivered by STEAM so updates would be easier for the FF team to deliver to the community.
