Computer freezing when playing

When I play any mod, be it CS S or TFC, lately my computer has been catching every minute or so and the screen will just freeze very momentarily, today I heard the fan turn on and it did this.

I have a XPS gen 2 laptop, 2gb ram, 2.13mhz pentium M processor and geforce 6800 ultra 256 mb card. Is thier any reason my computer would be doing this ? I haven't played in a long time and now it is happening.

Could be a few things, but the last time that happened to me it was my boot HDD on the way out. I'd run a scandisk on any drives you have first off.

put this in your console in game or ad to your cfg file "cl_net_graph 3" it will show your fps, choke, and ping in the lower right hand corner also your packet loss. then you can try to figure witch area the problem is coming from.

also I updated my vid card drivers awhile back and it wouldn't run the game at all.

Their is no problem with ping fps or anything, it is a hardware issue or some program running in the background that is screwing up my computer.

Then go into your configuration utility go to start up and see whats running. You also might want to check the services. I don't have a very high end comp so I keep all that shit to a min.

Did you update your video card drivers while you weren't playing? You might want to go back to the old ones if you did.

I run a radeon 9660 sapphire but when I update the drivers the game freeze frames or won't even run.

It's usually best to get the worst out of the way, so it eliminates them straight off the bat if they're not the issue
