Stalker : Clear Sky

For those who don't know - Stalker : Clear Sky is a prequel to Stalker : Shadows of Chernobyl, game that sets in Zone, territory of Chernobyl accident. Release date in Europe is 5th September in Europe. I've already played it ( 29th August is a release date in Ukraine, ). What I can say about it : don't even think to buy this, cause it's a real bugged piece of shit. I didn't really like first part of the game, but still, it can be played without crashes. This crashes everytime. Beyond that, entire game is boring and full of critical bugs(not crash related). Few really new locations and tons of slightly reworked old ones. It really looks like alpha version of an expansion pack than standalone game.

That's too bad. I was looking forward to this one as the first game had elements I was hoping they'd improve on.

I heard that half of the developers of the original were fired from the work, and new-comers weren't able to understand the half of the original game code. And with addition to that game was really rushed (original game was developed more than six years, this one a lot more than a year). It seems that russian and ukrainian players was used as beta-testers (for their money) for further releases. I'm sure it will be patched hardly to european and US release, but it's next to imposiible to fix this shitload of bugs in so short time.

I liked the atmosphere of the original one and how everytime it turned dark or I had to underground I got spooked and would rage-quit the game.

I was looking forward to this game but after hearing all the responses about Clear Sky I will not get it.

Yeah I totally agree.

But I was reading some more reviews of Clear Sky and I wasn't particularly impressed, especially with the side-quests and performance and the scripted sequences/respawning enemies..Then others said it felt like the good parts of the original and improved in them, etc.

I might pick it up when it comes down to $30 later down the road (on Steam or something). Crysis Warhead, Far Cry3, Spore, Mirrors Edge, Left4Dead, Fallout3, Dead Space...

not in anyway rushing or even interested to play this.

Emphasis, perhaps, on mindless?

Nah man I dig that shit, too.

I just got back into STALKER using the Oblivion Lost mod. It's a lot more engaging now. Random blowouts are terrifying.

I'm sad to hear Clear Sky's gonna be a shit, though. Could've been a lot better.

ya know they released many patches for the original and in the end it still felt incomplete and ran poorly even on a system that well exceeded it's recommend requirements.

And it's sad that to really enjoy the original is with the help of user-mods.

I loved the effects but, yeah, high settings drag even on a fairly strong system. As far as user mods making it more enjoyable....reminds me a bit of ID Software's stuff...good at engines...not so good at storyline stuff...

Wow, this is depressing. There were a lot of extremly new and cool things in Stalker, but it did feel like a let down after all they promised.

i still havent played stalker since i first tried it and quit after 2 hours, so i was wondering if the Oblivion Lost mod will work with playing through the SP or will it wreck the experience? Because if it works, i think i would be willing to try it again with that mod

Clear Sky is amazing. I've been playing it for a week or so now.

I recorded a video for someone at FPSBanana -

Crappy Gameplay Vid

I recommend it to anyone that liked SoC.

Oblivion Lost won't negatively affect (and will in many ways enhance) the single-player experience. Every quest works (and time limits have been disabled, allowing you to take quests you otherwise wouldn't), and there's a lot more going on as well.

There's the unfortunate side effect of quest-important people sometimes being killed, though, but most of them avoid combat or are already in "safe zones" so it usually only affects side quests, many of which can be completed without their assistance (sometimes scouring their body will provide you with the necessary information). I've only had one "important" person die on me - and he wasn't even that important, so yeah.
