Music for the massess
Spotify is not available in the usa yet but this could be the answer and compormise between the music industry and us. The fans who make them what they are. I have been a big fan of music streaming and yes, p2p for years. But unlike streaming this site is the modern day iTunes... For FREE. Universal has already signed and several launches have been successful in Europe. The logic goes like this, according to Universal: People are going to DL music anyway. OMFG do they finally realize this? 95 percent of all music consumption is now illegal. People don't necessarily want to own songs. Comsumption doesn't = ownershit. They Just want listen to them. POV shift in consumers. OMFG they finally get it?? Current online models that aren't radio airplay, meaning you can't choose a song -force you to purchase the song. Rememver, people don't want to "own" the song, just listen. And if record companies can capture revenue from the song being played through site advert revenue then they are taping into the 95 percent of who they earn NOTHING. Even if that is only say 8 percent. Thus Spotify. You can pick a song and in about 5 seconds it starts playing. You own personal jukebox on the net. Stay tuned, its farging cool.

Spotify is one of the few things that makes it easier to listen to the music you want to hear than downloading it, either through paying or not.
For the price of a few un-intrusive adverts an hour (sometimes I don't hear any ad's at all) you get a massive catalogue of music legally available to you at any time. The program is not resource intensive and works very well, but you'd expect that since it's made by the same guy who created uTorrent. Spotify is actually funded by some of the rather tasty sum of money he got from BitTorrent Inc. when they bought uTorrent from him. With a few enhancements it could certainly be the best software around for music combined with the internet. |
