im pretty sure the way the sails are atm they arent blocking very much vis, if any.

if u could use some models for the ship, i whould be glad to create some. I made the black pearl in 3d studio max so i can export the parts to smd files for use in your map, also the hull is quite square

that's how i do it
and something else i probably do wrong: compiling only happens if half of the map is finished, so i get a lot of errors to fix

Well I requested models on another site but not here. I'd be looking for rum barrels, cannons, treasure chest, captains wheel, bow boat sculpture, and I forget what else but the rum barrels seemed the most important. I'd happily collaborate with a modeler if you're really interested I think we should talk via email or irc just get back to me on here.

As far as the blocky bow, again this is a question of polygon count and my concerns for frame rates. The angle is not seen much since game play rarely reaches the water. If people really think I can push for more detail after downloading the beta and testing it on their system I'd highly consider more detail. My concern right now is solely with playability. I've yet to see any map with a full game and what kind of frame hits this would take.

I can picture this tied up to a pier. Lots of barrels and crates and drunken passed out pirates. Fish nets and a couple buildings as the pier abuts the shoreline.

One team defends the pirates treasure (flag) the other team is trying to loot it from the pier.

i had a chance to try this map out and heres a list of my issues

-make it so you dont have to jump to get the flag
-add spawn protection
-optimize, idk y but i get terrible fps
-fix a bunch of the textures, theres a bunch of unaligned and overlaped textures
-make a skybox
-vary the textures
-limit the hw count
-make it easier to climb the ladders, like a platform
-make it so you cant stand on the open up doors where the cannons would stick out of. probably just make a really steep triangle brush above them textured with player clip
-at least attach a block to the bottom of the fins of the shark, it looks weird when u c just the fins while ur in the water for the second
-find a way to kill you when u fall in the water without blowing u up and flying 200 meters
-make it so you cant stand on the emergency boats, idk how, but as above it drives some people nuts to go somewhere and have no way out but kill themselves (jumping inthe water in this case)
-block bullets/grenades/pipes/etc. from falling in the grate above spawn

thats all i can think of atm, il add more if i think of it
