Not really. Actually not at all. The tram scenes looked okay (not great, just okay, but it's the tram scene what can you do with stills that would ever be interesting?), the office scene just looked like a messier cs_office with Vortigaunts - but then again, it's a fucking office.

It's fucking screenshots in a magazine, though, I can't expect much out of those. The only genuinely amazing scenes Black Mesa can really hope to deliver on are the genuinely amazing scenes in Half-Life, and even then they can only be captured in motion. Like getting out onto the edge of the Mesa - with lighting effects and a 3D skybox that would be genuinely exciting. Or the first few seconds of Xen. The resonance cascade scene. Etc. Even these would be boring as stills.

The tram and the office, though, are not interesting regardless.

Black mesa has been in development for 5 years now.

The team was put together in November - December 2004, but actual development did not start until around January 2005.

5 years to develop a modification? I'am going to guess black mesa is going to beat the current record set by team fortress 2, which is around 9 years. So we only have about 5 more years to wait.

Big difference is that Duke Nukem is being made by people who are getting paid money to do so. Black Mesa is being made by people who are not. In fact it's being done in their spare time and these people have jobs, family and social lives. You don't spend a dime to play it, so I think that at the least you could give them your patience.

Now, that said, more frequent web page updates would be extraordinarily helpful. Even things as small as "nothing to report, still chugging along."
Other than that I feel that some slack getting cut is in order.

The lack of updates is a major part of the problem.

The black mesa youtube channel has a bunch of "testing" videos on it, but very little actual gameplay.

Its like the whole project has been turned into a tease.

We should force them to work nonstop, cancel their dates, break up their relationships, force them to eat hamster food and bird feed and crap in litterboxes so they can finish this thing faster.

It's not all that cruel, because they'll get it DONE and then they will be set free. So they will likely spend less time cumulatively by finishing it all in one 'block' than just 'spare timing' it.
