FPS/lag Improvement
Alright, steam friends is a packet hog, and causes a massive decrease in FPS. To disable Steam Friends during games, join a server. Press Shift + Tab. Enter Settings, click the third tab. There should be a check box that is checked that says "enable steam community during gameplay" or something similar. Uncheck that. Restart your copy of FF, and your FPS should go up substantially.
To a mod, please sticky this. I had horrible FPS, and now, running a ATI Radeon 9600, I get a good 25-30 FPS during hectic battles. Happy Huntings! (Edit: You can do this above in any HL2 game, and it will also effect FF, so if you can't run FF, try this in HL2: DM) -edit by 4est STEAM friends occasionally still ran during games. (my luck) In friends go to View > Settings > Friends Tab and uncheck "Automatically start friends when I launch STEAM". If you have manually logged into friends, be sure to restart STEAM before playing games so as to log out of friends.

Thanks alot men.. I got X1600XT and i thought that i should get a new gpu
since yesterday i've experienced 30 fps in mid-field ff_monkey now after i've turned it off i get 90 fps +, and other maps 150-200 fps. there is no need to disable it while playing, just go to settings (steam tray icon) -> ingame -> disable. and go in fraggin'! thanks |

Thanks for the tip, not sure if it was really because of this but the game seemed to run softer afterwards.

This could be why it didn't help some people.
For me, STEAM friends occasionally still ran during games. (my luck) In friends go to View > Settings > Friends Tab and uncheck "Automatically start friends when I launch STEAM". If you have manually logged into friends, be sure to restart STEAM before playing games so as to log out of friends. This will keep friends from running at all unless you go to trouble of signing in. |

I had to crank it down to directx 7 to play smoothly (in addition to the tip above) its a shame but worth it to play above 20fps haha..
Launch options: -dxlevel 70 might experiment with 8 but 9 is definately out for my system sadly(athlon 3200, GT6800 GT) |

there was an FPS boosting config in another thread somewhere. I pasted it in my autoexec but now i can't see the implosion effect that concs make. what is the command to enable viewing that effect?

1. Just move all the .cfg files to another folder as a backup. Don't forget the config.cfg 2. Start up FF and play. A new config.cfg will be written. 3. Restore your Regular scripts but leave out the hax 4. ?? 5. PROFIT! |
