What happened to the new journal by jon? I saw it, now it's gone. I just saw it posted on planethalflife as well so what gives (aside from buying a 8600, those things blow)?

I edited it, which makes it go through the authorization process.

I pretty much only edited to explain how I'm exchanging the CPU and video card for better shit.
E6600 instead of E6400, since the E6600 recently became a whole lot cheaper... like...$100 less than when I ordered my E6400 just a couple weeks ago. And I'm getting an 8800 GTS instead to replace my 8600 GTS, since my 8600 GTS was only $50 less than the most popular (and cheapest) 8800 GTS. And what's $50? Gone, that's what. It's actually only a $30 difference after a rebate. So yeah...why not? I even got the restocking fees taken away, because I apparently hit her spot just right. |

I would imagine you wouldn't be able to tell the difference with a still picture.

Yeah, I imagine the quality of the picture won't change much, but I better get more than 30 fps at those settings...or someone's gonna die.

The 8800 is way faster, you should be happy with it. 16xaa at 1600x1200 is gonna push even the fastest cards though..

Yeah, I'd be interested to hear some feedback. I just ordered the following myself:
ABIT AB9 Pro (Intel P965 Express) - ATX Crucial Ballistix 1 Gb (Kit 2x 512 Mb) DDR2-SDRAM PC6400 4-4-4-12 - BL2KIT6464AL804 MSI NX8800GTS-T2D320D-HD-OC - 320 Mb TV-Out/Dual DVI - PCI Express (NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS) Scythe Infinity (for Socket 478/754/775/939/940/AM2) Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 - Dual Core ! Socket 775 FSB1066 cache L2 4 Mb 0.065 micron Arctic Silver 5 - Thermal compound (3.5 grams) I'd also hope for more than 30fps The recent price drop on the E6600s is a nice bonus. |

e6600 is definitely a good buy
I've had it paired w/ the older 7600 gts for a while and its still been a beast. Didn't even overclock or anything but its very good for that. |

It was a tossup between 2gb of PC5300 and 1gb of PC6400, although if having only 1 begins to annoy me, I can just grab another. Oh and I was more thinking about feedback on the game performance from those with similar rigs & playing FF right now, but thanks anyway
Edit: Sod it, stuck another gig on now, might as well. Last edited by Sureshot; 04-27-2007 at 07:16 PM. |
