Does CorsuS mean periodic patches / updates instead of huge one's that take months?
Sorry bout the huge title, but i tried to make it as specific as possible so a Dev will look here:
Now that you guys (dev's) have decided to use this program, does that mean that instead of having to wait for a full patch up-date (months / weeks) you will be able to release some of the not so major changes periodically on CorsuS? Such as the one DrEvil stated HERE? Quote:

RIGHT ON!!! Does CorsuS have an auto update function or will the updates be reported here?
~also ty for the quick reply. On that note for anyone who had trouble's dl'ing thru CorsuS you have to create an account and THEN dl if not it will just sit there. SO create an account NOW!

I like the idea. If this implemented early enough it will become a regular routine for all players to use.
Maybe you should consider taking manual installation d/l's down all together? That way people will be forced to become familiar with the auto update(s). |

The crappy part is there isn't currently an automatic way for server ops to update their servers, esp linux servers, so in the case of some fixes that are server side as well the bottleneck would be getting servers to update.

ah I see...well lame! What if you just name the file Server Update package or something...geneally if people see that they will ignore it unless they have a server and will opt for the CorsuS way (especially if it's either that or the "server file")
Most people are gullable. They will believe what you tell them b/c you are in a position of leadership...

hey will i need to make an accout? I was under the impression that i didn't have to sign up in order to receive FF updates if i used crosus, but it seems on other threads, that signing up is a must in order to get updates?

I think you do need to set up an account to get the updates...

Yeah, you have to make an account in CrosuS (if you have a www.isotx.com login I believe that will work as well).

and those allow anonymous logins to get the content, all you need is to build mirrors network, but i'm sure you'll find people willing to host the content servers |

It could not be grandfathered in (due to the very likely possibility that names used on FF forums are already taken at Crosus, and vice versa), but it would be an awesome feature for the future. Plus maybe working out such a deal would warrant a news post on both sites, i.e. "Fortress Forever and Crosus team up".

@JECS - what difference would it make? Steam won't host b/c of legal reasons so no matter what you have to go somewhere externally to get the file. Why not make a uniform way of doing it so that everyone get's it at the same time?

There aren't any legal reasons Steam can't support mods. Its supposed to be something they plan on doing (or so they say).

i almost stopped playing tfc and cs because of steam. i miss the old won days. its bad enough im forced to use steam i dont want to install another program. if it were to download from steam instead of crosus that would be fine, but i have no intentions of installing something else. ill just go back to tfc if that happens.

It's not a program that you use for authentication and are required to use for gameplay. It's a system for easy updates. If that is too much for you to bother with, how do you survive the interweb? |
