air control

Air control... oh the a-i-r c-o-n-t-r-o-l.
One of the biggest things i miss about qw and qwtf comparing on the mods today is the control you have about your movement in air, in qw it was just perfect.
I have played ONLY team fortress in the original team fortress, so not tfc so i cant say anything about its air control, (well our clan DOWNFALL had a quick 1 season on EETFL on ETF and it had a nice air control too) and i consider myself as one of the hardcore players at the time TF was on its peak, i spent hours and hours paractising the jumps and to be honest, i miss it.

So, my question is, will the air control be 1.similar 2.near 3. not at all like it, comparing to qwtf?

tfc is a mod for halflife, which used a heavily modified version of the quake engine. Its air control is indentical to the original quake (and subsequently, quake tf). And yes, it is probably one of the greatest elements in the game and opens up a ton of new skills/moves etc. All indications are that this air control is going to be replicated to the closest degree on the source engine.

Well, i have been watching this mod and that q4 fortress thingy, the q4 fortress thingy seems to be a bit buried at the moment but not dead, and to be honest i wish FF will be the one to make it considering the amount of people who has intrest on this mod right now. q4 scene seems alot dead at the moment.

Looking at those pictures from well, oh man... i want to prime my concs allready, and bases, what can i say.... jesus christ
Its been too long, way too long, for the TeamFortress players to get their next fix and i truely hope this is The One.

Keep up the good work, you got me hooked allready, and i hope your mod gets the attetion and playerbase it deserves if the "hype" is even 75% true.

Yea, from what we hear they're trying to replicate TFC almost exactly, except they may be adding some things like trimping. I've never played any other fortress but TFC, so I don't know what trimping is like but I look foreward to it.

And welcome to the forums (doyooo!)

IMO TFC has the best air control in the business, the banana concs, bhops and glides make for very smooth gameplay.

My favorite is when you get blasted by an enemy rocket and you use the velocity from that to fly across the map (And capture command point 3)

Indeed, but I want to be able to pull incredibly tight strafes after a conc without the strafe "buckling". So no matter how fast you travel, you can still pull incredibly tight strafes. I would still be happy with strafing as close to TFC as possible though.

You conc and in mid air you peel a banana......

Actually, it's when you do a conc jump and turn in mid air, thus following the shape of a banana. It allows you to conc around corners, i.e. from the platform across from the fence onto the APc cap point of epicenter.

I think being able to "tight turn" air strafe takes away a bit of skill, the reason why concing in TFC is such an art is because you need to carefully tune the speed of the conc, and balance it with the air-acceleration rate to pull off the move you want to. For instance rizzo's conc on openfire in the final (semi-final?) of ECTFC 7 is so amazing because its the ultimate balance of speed ,power, and air control. (oh yeah and luck too )

The aircontrol in FF is very much like TFC's. HL2's movement system had some additional stuff mixed in that affected the ability to turn in the air; mirv managed to track down all of the stuff that messes with the perfection that is HL aircontrol and remove it.
