Dropping to desktop

Ctrl, Alt, Del,: Alt, Tab, : Windows start menu key :

All three ways have a 50:50 chance of making FF crash or not load properly when used on my comp... is there a better way to drop to desktop? Is this a bug? Is it just me?

The best way I have found is to hit the esc key first and then tab out or hit the windows key. This gives me about a 90% chance of FF not crashing. But if I do it to many times FF will still crash. It's the same when I was playing HL2 DM though.

Source engine bug, not fixable by the team. Happens in all source based games. Running in windowed mode rather than fullscreens gives a better chance of not crashing/locking up.

I've never crashed while switching windows in windowed mode. Just got to make sure you keep FF maximized but behind whatever active window you want to use. If you minimize the windowed mode even for a second it takes forever to maximize again (but usually still won't crash unless it's been minimized for a LONG time).

I've had it minimized whilst mapping (This is in a game at the time, too.) for several hours without it crashing, I think its just luck of the draw with it personally. On my old system minimizing in windowed mode was a CERTAIN crash, whilst minimizing in full screen I could always bring back.

I've noticed that if you are in a server and the map changes while your out of FF (alt+tab, window button, whatever) then it will crash or freeze.

But yeah if I'm mapping or something I generally leave it in window mode and just alt tab or hit the window key when I'm done testing and need to map again. Never had a problem that way.

Crash on map change when minimized. Other than that, it works, but the hud color turns to a sort of dark white when I bring it back. Tried unchecking and rechecking the team color option, but no dice. Only fix I find is to reconnect, which then makes minimizing not so useful.

I get the white HUD often, generally if you play through it for a few deaths it will return to team color.

That or switch teams usually works.

be, if you switch teams and go back, it'll fix itself, happens to me too...
