Ok...I set audio to medium and started a listenserver on hunted.
I played for about 1 minute and my PC restarted itself...No looping...Just restarted :S BTW Insurgency plays fine Oh I checked in event viewer straight away when PC had booted up and saw this :- The time on my clock was 19:52 ... So I guess that error tallies with what time my PC restarted. But as you can see that error happens a lot yet it doesn't affect the comp/games at all. Cheers. |

This is happening to me all the time. I'm pissed off, as soon as I get 5 minutes into the game it always crashes with a sound loop. ARRRGH.

I had the exact same problem as the OP until I updated my ATI drivers. I read that ATI cards need the newest drivers. it still crashes often but say every 30 minutes now instead of every 4

I am getting the same thing, I started it up the first time and just before the map finished loading I got some directx error, restarted it, I played for about 15 minutes and my game froze with looping sound with the only way out been restarting the computer.
The second time I loaded the map and a few seconds later it froze... I am running: X800XT PE 256MB 1.5GB DDR2 400Mhz RAM Windows XP SP2 AMD64 3200+ SB Audigy ZS 2 I have all the latest drivers which I am 100% sure I do. |

Count me in as having this problem too. It's really annoying.
Except sometimes I don't loop and then crash. Sometimes the game slows down to 1fps and then eventually locks up and I have to restart. And a few times I was playing and then randomly got booted to the FF splash screen and got disconnected from the server. Very strange. And yeah, sometimes I can play for a few hours and sometimes it happens within minutes. |

ok well i used to get this chronically, but after screwing with some settings, i havent crashed like this in about 2 hours (only getting the studiorender.dll crash). heres what i did that seemed to have fixed it:
- uninstalled and reinstalled sound and video card drivers - run FF windowed, with all the graphics settings on low, 1280x800 resolution - turned off steam community ingame (go to your steam options, select In Game, and uncheck) - turn sound quality to medium with every one of those it got a bit less frequent, and the sound quality one seems to be the nail in the coffin. hopefully this is it for good, and i hope it helps you guys too. |

My crashes was largely when playing Soldier on map well(either or both being the cause seemingly 3 or 4 times). Its now resolved by the sound quality turning to medium, instead of its default high.
By the way, I think when FF installs, it should put things on a low graphical setting by default. My pc runs okay in high settings but I played poorly(at what was likely 20-25 fps), now on low settings, at 35+, its really fun... |

I really hope they fix this soon. It's pretty much making the game unplayable for me. It's not worth restarting my computer every 5 minutes.

Try making a shortcut on the desktop with -dxlevel 70 handle, seems to have resolved to issue for me.

I'll try that but.........what exactly does that do?
Wait, how do I make a shortcut for an HL2 mod? There's no exe file for FF. |

Go to the folder with steam.exe and then create a shortcut of it(right click > create shortcut). Then right click the shortcut, go find the target field, and put "-applaunch 215 -game "(path to the fortressforever folder(\steam\SteamApps\SourceMods\FortressForever )"" (without the very first and the very last quotes). I was able to run FF using this method, just make sure you have everything EXACTLY right.

Ok, so it's supposed to look like this?
-applaunch 215 -game (\steam\SteamApps\SourceMods\FortressForever) Or like this? -applaunch 215 -game D:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\SourceMods\FortressFor ever The Steam folder being in my D partition. |
