Hey, lets not include IDE!
That was probably the first thing the people who decided to make my MOBO decided on in that huge board meeting we all know they had. The conversation probably went something like this:
"How can we piss people off who haven't upgraded their PC in four-six years because when they bought their PC at the time it was top of the line and has lasted them that long?" "We can have our motherboard not support IDE so when they finally do build their new PC they have to buy another HD!" "Well, that's not enough to piss some people off as they will just transfer info from one of their PC's to another..." "We thought of that. When they plug up their old PC to the same network, our motherboard will send a signal via LAN to their other computers power supply to shit on it to truly piss everyone in the world off." "BRILLIANT!" Yeah guys. Good job. So I've got a choice or four. I can either wait for a new power supply for another computer to get in tomorrow OR I could go out and try and find one of THESE >=( in hopes it will work. Chances are, of course, that it won't... for you see, the people who designed my motherboard have this all worked out just to piss me off. GG EVGA. GG.

Tip for anyone else who does this:
If you have enough money to buy a new machine, get an external hard drive first and backup your old shit! |

Just out of curiosity...
Did you buy a new motherboard and then found out it didn't support IDE? Or...? Because if you bought a new motherboard and then found out it didn't support IDE, I'd say that's your own fault. :P |

I bought the MOBO for SLI, mainly. All other MOBO's ever have IDE and every time I've ever thought about buying a MOBO it has had IDE. It not being included is just unacceptable, especially with now being the time to upgrade your PC.

And just to think that this could've been avoided if you read the box?
But yes, a motherboard not having IDE is kind of odd. They usually have at least one slot. |

IDE to SATA converter connector. Hook that shit up as slave, transfer to your new drive.

Yep my new mobo only had one IDE connection so my DVD's got that. Luckily I ordered a SATA HDD but I still couldn't connect my old hard drives. I did have everything backed up to my external though.

IDE has been around since the 80s. The drives are starting to get scarcer, moving over shelf space for SATA. Sometimes I really have to look for one on the shelves to find one
Maximum PC had a review on an external USB Box that supported IDE. You could hot swap any IDE drive in and out of it. Great for bakups and to reuse older drives. I'll look around and see if i can find a copy of the mag. |
