because when you upgrade the gun it goes to full health

I usually wait until it's almost dead to upgrade it because I assume I'm conserving cells

I do the same thing sometimes when no bags are around. If I have 200 cells, I'll upgrade it just as it's about to be destroyed. But if I have closer to 130 cells, I usually just throw a bag or two down beside me so I have more cells to repair my SG since even with 200 cells, I am left with only 70 after building.

Another good trick to do with a SG is to quick upgrade it. You do this by spawning with 200 cells, building SG, throwing your bags down beside the SG, grabbing a full restock of cells from respawn, upgrading to lvl 2 and then picking up those dropped bags which will give you a combined total of 140 to upgrade to lvl 3 SG.

Or, build a Dispenser first so you have 100 cells left, immediately use it to grab cells and it should give you 30 right off the bat to build a SG with.
