Mappers: What do you dislike about mapping?
Since the mapping forum seem a bit extinct to me to me, I've decided to come up with an interesting topic to talk about. The title of the thread covers the topic that I want to discuss here. I for one do not enjoy having to place light entitys and such - something I really dislike practicing. Another thing I have hard time practicing is to think outside the box. I sometimes stutter and take a lot of time just thinking about what I should do to improve the overall look and feel of the map. I am very interesting to know what others dislike about mapping - discuss .

Entities. I don't mind placing light entities around but any other entity can fuck right off to be honest with you :P

hmmm, I would say restrictions...like having to be efficient. I want to be able to use the carve tool without having to worry about r_speeds and fps at all!
wishful thinking. |

Textures. I can't create good looking textures so I hate relying on default or third party textures to make a map look how -I- want it to.

That is where I am at right now Own3r (in adgore's fr - still thinking what I should do). And yes, all entitys are a pain - I just seem to hate lighting up the map the most.

Skyboxes and lighting (and it shows). I know skyboxes are simple, but MAN when the rest of the map is looking spunky, the last thing I want to do is sit around and make sure the rolling hills look good and align correctly with the edge of the real map.
And somehow I can never get the lighting to work exactly how I want. It always reflects funny off of one surface or isn't 'exciting' enough. Rar. |

I hate how I need to be able to model and texture in order to create something truly unique and fresh.
That being said, I need to find some texture / model slaves. |

Like : Starting
Hate : Finishing up. The most fun part of mapping is coming up with ideas, creating the layout and fleshing out a theme imo. The worst part is just all the niggly stuff you have to do to get the sodding thing finished. |
