You cannot prove a negative. You can disprove a positive.
You cannot scientifically prove there isn't a God you also cannot scientifically prove there is one either. There is however, scientific evidence to further support the scientific theory of evolution. Don't take this personally but If you disagree with the Scientific theory unplug everything electrical in your house and don't ever visit a doctor or hospital again. |

i could ask you for evidence or proof of these assertions, but that would be using the scientific method, wouldn't it? i suppose your alternative is to allow people to make random assertions without argument or evidence? |

As a religious person, I think science is important and interesting. It gives us insight in how the world and everything works, which is in no way a bad thing. It's just that some scientists like to tell people that what they found out or think is automatically true, even if, later on, it proves false or only a small part of a bigger whole. Similarly, religious people misinterpret what is/was written or spoken and also automatically accept it, or worse, intentionally change it to gain power or whatever.
As far as I'm concerned, science and religion can go in hand in hand as long as both parties take a step back and get their heads out of their asses. As long as they shut eachother out, progress is much slower and far more suspectible to error. As for aliens, it's likely that they'll be biological or something similar (should we ever meet them), but I'm sure they could also reside in sound or light or anything we wouldn't thought possible. Our world isn't all there is to it, so there might be a hell of a lot of undiscovered stuff out there, things we can't even pick up or 'sense' with our current technology. Besides, our planet, in a sense, is also a living being. |

It is possible to prove something can't be done, for example:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trisecting_an_angle Also, if you look into the field of computability, there are lots of questions about what can and can't be computed. It's been shown, for example, that you cannot write a computer program that will definitely determine whether any other computer program will crash. I mean, the first program takes 'computer programs' in general as input and returns 'can crash' or 'cannot crash', basically.
