Epic + Steam = nice surprise

Steam Welcomes Epic Games
March 17, 2008, 12:10 pm - Eric Twelker

World-renowned developer Epic Games makes its debut on Steam today, delivering the award-winning Unreal and Unreal Tournament franchise to Steam gamers everywhere.

The Epic hits now available on Steam include the debut classic Unreal Gold, Unreal 2: The Awakening and the Unreal Tournament series: Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition, Unreal Tournament 2004: Editor's Choice Edition, and the recently released Unreal Tournament 3, which has shipped over a million copies to date. For the ultimate Unreal experience, nab the Unreal Deal Pack, an incredible value at just $59.95.

To celebrate the launch, all of Epic’s games on Steam are available for 10% off their regular price (offer ends March 24).
Pretty cool. Might have to buy that Unreal Deal Pack. Even though I hated Unreal 2, the rest are alright-to-good...while their CDs I own are missing-to-fucked. And I actually never bought 2k4, only 2k3. Always meant to get 2k4, so uh...well, a few years late is fine. Also been meaning to get UT3, which now seems like a good idea. Plus, maybe this Steam deal will bring more players to UT3 (too bad FF can't get a Steam deal, BAHAHAHAHAHAHA).

So many big developers on Steam now. Definitely weird/awesome how id, Valve, and Epic are all just goin' down on each other now for our benefit. Blizzard needs to join in on the orgy and throw their anthology on Steam. God damn, that'd be great.

That pisses me off... I've got UT2k4, UT3, U2, and lost my copy of UT GOTY...

I may end up getting this later down the road when i've got the cash to steam my Unreal games... though I wish they'd add Gears on PC as well...

Neat, UT2004 is like 12 dollars or something... Never bothered to buy it too. Might do now, though.

Yay, Steam.

Good for Steam but I am part of that market that doesn't like online software delivery. Why? I like having the materials that come with the install media. Every now and then a game comes out with in box materials that enhance the atmosphere of the game. Similar to the reason why I buy CD's.

Ah not me, I end up throwing the case into a box labeled "Game cases", writing down the cd key, adding the cd to my cd holder and downloading a NOcd.

But that's just me.

Hopefully things will continue in a manner that allows both of us to get what we prefer!

Yeah, I couldn't care less about having the disc and materials. And I really like how Steam lets me basically install these games on any number of computers as I want. I pretty much have my whole Steam collection on about 5 or 6 different machines. Great shit.

With games all you get is a "How to play hur hur" manual and a box. The "how to play" manual is worthless to me, since I rebind my keys and go from there.
CDs, however, I buy 100% of the time. Album art just means more to me than game boxes.

UT3 collector's edition comes with 20+ hours of excellent video tutorials covering every aspect of the toolset, though I think Buzz might have or might be going to put htose on his site like with the ones he made for previous unreal engines.

Isn't UT3 going for about what this pack is retail?

I'll likely be getting it next week.

That's too bad. With the exception of UT Everything I've ever done has been in SP mode.

well the multiplayer is the same as Ut2k4 also. Nothing new, there's about 600 emtpy servers and about 20ish servers that are populated.

i agree, there's nothing like box art and box collections for classic games. then again, if I don't really expect much out of a game i like the steam system too.
