Hardcore TFCers and the move to FF

Hey guys, I was playing TFC recently, and although I play pubs I noticed that only the most seasoned and fanatic players seem to be playing TFC anymore. I was in this game where the other team had 5 HW guys on 2fort; 2 on sniper tower, 2 on bottom and 1 on stairs. We got our asses kicked, and what a glorious ass kicking it was.
(Needless to say they threw my pyro down on the ground and beat him with random blunt objects.)

The question is what is the best way to get these players to be aware of FF, and to come to FF when it finally comes out? Some servers will kick you for using .coms in say commands.

Every hardcore TFCer is aware of FF, some are looking forward to a breath of fresh life, some don't want any change to the game they are good at.

Hell, there were people playing WON TFC for ages, because they didn't know that STEAM existed (and some continued to play WON TFC for other reasons).

What's the best way to inform those folks about FF? Don't know. Probably wouldn't hurt to ask on those types of servers if people have heard of Fortress Forever, and then telling them to google for it... but *shrug* there's no good answer, I don't think.

upon first visit to FF.com, user is awarded with 15 llama credits to be later spent at the fortress-forever merchandise store.

Ads in New York Times on the front page *hehe*
Nah, maybe donation-wise support from the community could allow spread firefox' campaign model ... although gamers are not as dedicated as us open source folks At least it is my experience.

In Germany you could get great support from the Giga Games team (one of the programs of the Giga TV channel here which is mainly dedicated to the Internet, computers and gaming... A lot of BOFHs know what FF is, common gamers not.
Making yourself a part of such a league as Giga Liga (and GameStar league, here, those are old TFC fans, had to drop TFC due to popularity loss) in your country (can't imagine there aren't nation-wide channels in Giga-style in the US of A) could give a great boost.

As an example: Warsow's community is a child of TV involvement (too lazy to look the word up , you surely get the word I mean :P )

EVERYBODY should change their nicks to: TFC2.com TFC-source.com when_ff_will_out? fortress-forever.com

I mean you all gonna play FF when it comes out right (if you don't, you don't exist)? So your curent TFC nicks are meaningless.

Those who don't do it (BumGravy, UncleAragon etc..) are comunists.

here's a good question. how did YOU hear about FF? if you found your way here, chances are the rest of the morons err i mean fellow TFCers will end up here as well. PHL and HLFallout are closely watched by the HL community. chances are when FF is covered, they'll hear about it.

or... TELL THEM TO COME HERE!

I heared about FF on halflife2.com i think. But if i havn't bought hl2 in the first place, i would have no reason to visit that site. Those who visit the HL/TFC community sites allready know about FF so they are not the aim.

Here's a good thread on the subject of TFC pubs.
http://forums.fortress-forever.com/s...ead.php?t=5095

So to conclude this, most HL2 ppls who are intrested in community mods are aware to FF. Most TFC clanners/old timers are aware to FF.

The only ones who might not be aware are fresh TFCers and TFCers who converted to CS/:S and shit..
Which means it's up to the FF community, mostly, to spread the word in the places they frequent.

I should think most Server owners/Gaming Server admins will probably have some form of message in the MOTD/Admin Mod screen-spam at regular intervals to alert all players, (once things are almost ready for release.)
